RIP Geoffrey Burgon
Jon Ross

Geoffrey Burgon, a prolific composer who got an early break into television by writing two of the best incidental scores in Doctor Who history (Terror of the Zygons and The Seeds of Doom) has died.

Sad news but thankfully the music lives on.

That's quite sad, and he wasn't even that old.

I once saw Evelyn Glennie, the percussionist, perform a piece he composed for her. I remember enjoying it. I called loudly "Do the Zygon music!" between movements but sadly they didn't. No I didn't. Not really. I didn't know he'd done Who music at the time and now Burgon's gone.

That's spooky. Thinking about the upcoming Seeds DVD, yesterday, I googled Mr Burgon with a view to sending him a fan letter. (I collect DW autographs, y'see). I had a squint at his website yesterday: I couldn't find a mention of DW, but did find suitable addresses to use when writing to him.

And now he's popped off.

His DW music is outstanding. It's really special and evocative and eerie. The use of "real" instruments is very effective, and makes his two soundtracks very memorable.

Sad news.

Rest in Peace Geoffrey. I watched TotZ again only a few weeks ago.

Have a Scottish lament on us.
Flowers of the Forest, played in the inn in Episode 1.
