Hi,

I've just had a horrible thought.....

What if BT are waiting for the launch of YouView before launching their in-the-pipeline HD box?

I'm already internet HD enabled in my area, but theres been nothing said by BT in regard to this.

I'd bet money on this being the case.

I would have thought that Vision is a dead man walking. It will be replaced by YouView next year sometime. So I guess there's little chance of a HD box being launched in the mean time.

And WTF is 'internet HD'???

Go faster (40MB) broadband I suspect, but not sure if even 100MB is enough to stream (I know FreeviewHD comes thru your aerial)? Still it will allow you to download HD films a lot faster than on a 6MB connection.

YouView could be BT's saviour IF they get they're act together but my money's on GoogleTV.

BT infinity adverts says you can watch several HD sources at the same time, as well as surfing, uploading photes, streaming music etc...

I Want 'Internet HD' like Masona. He's enabled. Why aren't I, or anyone else in the real world?

Well spotted, kinda hints at the whole multicasting thing. perhaps infinity will be like virgin media?

hehehe thats a good one but yes masona is referring to infinity.

oddly for me. eastleigh and fair oak are listed as being enabled soon, wonder if that means I'd get enabled? Although my address states southampton, I actually come under Eastleigh borough council so if Bt were allowed to upgrade as per approval of them then surely they'd cover West End too?

looks promising though.

I think if BT carry on as they are then yes it will become stale and probably dead considering the upcomming products on the horizon. however if they do get infinity up and used it to stream channels down like virgin/talk talk do then quite possibly BT could well mix things up a little. seeing as the linear pay TV system hasn't really changed for years.

BT linear channels + youview + BT VOD.... could rival virgin quite well and would cause sky a bit of bother...

But how many in the UK can get that let alone the Infinity product. At the rate BT are upgrading it will be years before YouView will be a viable VOD product for all.

You'll be surprised. I'm in an almost rural location just outside High Wycombe and SamKnows says our exchange will be enabled in December (2011).

BT are currently busy digging up all the streets!

Streaming HD films and live TV. Could be even less now, due to more advanced tech and codecs, was a while ago I read about it.

Vision runs on ~1.5mbps at the moment.
Picture quality is good and not far off DVD quality.

If they can double the bit rate it would be a massive leap in quality.
What's BBC HD on Freeview at just now - it is not about 8mbps ?

Even getting close to that would be a start.

I keep saying it and will say it again Sky and Virgin should fear the upcoming changes in how we watch TV

Infinity broadband is rolling out very fast. Id say most will be done or done shortly after the digital switch over, by then freeview will be available to pretty much everyone

Youview plus Vision plus freeview, the place to be

Stuntmaster, I think it is the Eastleigh exchange that will be enabled, so if you are on the Eastleigh exchange then you will be able to get Infinity. My exchange isn't even on the list yet, so it looks like I won't be getting it for a few years.

BT are upgrading cabinet boxes 1 through 90 in High Wycombe at the moment (your roadside cabinet needs to be connected to the exchange via fibre) and my cabinet is number 113 out of 115 in total in High Wycombe. To say I'm unhappy is an understatement!!

How unlucky can you get, know how you feel and thought it was only me that this sort of thing happened to! Still doesn't look like you'll be waiting long, especially if it's a big success.
