Accurate Record

Wondered if anyone has problems with accurate record on channel 4 HD?

Recording from BBC1, BBC2, BBC3, BBC HD, ITV4 and E4 appears to work fine with recordings starting a couple of seconds before the actual program.

Recording from Five always uses the start and end times as per the EPG (so on Mondays I always miss the first couple of minutes of "How Do They Do That?" as it always comes on early at approximately 7:28). From this I deduce Five does not use AR signalling.

The odd one is Channel 4 HD. Recording programs at 10:00PM I always get the last few minutes of the previous program or a couple of minutes of adverts as thier 10:00 programs normally start a couple of minutes late. From this I would also deduce that channel 4 HD does not use AR signalling however, I normally miss the start of Hollyoaks and noted that some recordings were only 28 minutes long. A couple of times I have been around at 6:30 and noted that the iPlate has said it is 6:30, the current program info has said it is Hollyoaks and Hollyoaks has actually started yet the HDR does not start to record till a minute has nearly passed (when it does start to record a few seconds later the clock ticks over to 6:31). Very odd - does channel 4 HD use AR signalling or not? Anyone explain whats happening?

Accurate recording isn't supported by all channels, and also some channels may consider missing the first or last few moments of a program still 'accurate' enough

The best option on the HDR-FOX T2 is to use autopadding with 2 minutes pre and 5 minutes post being enough to not have any truncated recordings. You still get to use series link and programs track any major schedule changes in the EPG still.

I'm currently using a belt and braces approach and have two boxes setup with exactly the same recordings. I have the FOXSAT HDR (Freesat) set up with auto padding (2 mins pre and 5 mins post) however I thought I'd experiment with the HDR FOX-T2 using Accurate Record. It has already paid dividend in that it caught the end of the over-running F1 qualifying a couple of weeks ago whereas the FOXSAT HDR's 5 minute post padding didn't (only by a few seconds but you get the point).

What does the HDR-FOX-T2 do with back-to-back programmes (i.e. one programme ending at precisely the same time as another programme starts)? Does it use the 9200 trick of discarding the post-padding on the first recording and discarding the pre-padding on the second recording, in order to use only one tuner? Thanks.

I know my Foxat throws away the new timer if I have two recordings running which both overrun the into the actual start time. Thankfully, I make back up recordings on one of my two Toppies so I don't lose out - or fall back on the online catchup services.

If the programs are on the same channel and back to back, padding is dropped, which sort of makes sense as you are guaranteed to get all the program just that if the schedule is out it can mean the end of the first program appears at the start of the next one.

My very limited testing seemed to show if the programs were on different channels, it fired up the second tuner to keep the padding, but I'm not 100% sure about that.
