Scratch Perry is like, THE most important reggae musician IMHO. You should really check him out, he is a pioneer and nothing short of a genius

It's still alive but not on the same scale it was when in the 70's Bob Marley era.

That was the ultimate reggae era Trojan.

Have you guys heard of 'Cherine Anderson'?

Anyone here heard Serge Gainsbourg's two reggae albums? A 52-year old Frenchman doing a reggae album sounds hideous, but for the first one, Aux Armes Et Caetera he went to Jamaica and hired Sly & Robbie and The I-Threes and made a surprisingly good album.

RIP Gregory.

Fave reggae (well probably more Ska I guess!) tracks include: 'Israelites' by Desmond Dekker & 'Double Barrel' by Dave & Ansell Collins.

I would put King Tubby slightly ahead of Lee Scratch Perry myself, but as he is more of a producer than a musician I am going to backtrack and agree with you

my love of reggae started 1975- 76 working at butlins Barry Island and some great nights in the Padget and fryers arms.

Sadly.. I use to listen to john Peel just for the two reggae Tracks he played hated all the rest.

One of the best sessions was steel Pulse Handsworth revolution with out all the synth over dubs on the record was brilliant.

I still love playing the raw session from that program which i have on cassette tape which i transferd to CD, David Hinds a great singer .sadly my interest died what with the arrival of lovers rock, IT ended around 1981- 82 with the electronic keyboards playing bass and drums and Reggae sounding like it had been record in Chavs bedroom .

Sorry i like the real bass and real drummers.

my favorites

1. Train To Rhodesia. Big Youth

2. Norman. Max romeo

3 Hit the road Jack. Big Youth

4. Mini Bus driver. Junior Reid

5 Plastic smile. Black Uhuru

Love Amigo! Bought the 12" when it came out. I actually hated Bob Marley and any other reggea until I first heard UB40 on John Peel when they first came out in 1980. They were the first group I saw live in 1980 and it was a fantastic gig. Saw Misty in Roots a year or so later. In fact I think now that the first reggea record I really loved was Warrior Charge by Aswad

Dunno in a reggae thred, but basically my love for reggae is part and parcel of my love for ragga and raggacore and jungle like 94 style, and I think this is a lovely little mix with some beenieman in it here mixed by DJ Subsdance who is an absolute ruler of ragga and jungle, she's the SW's best kept secret.
