Will a Blackberry Bold work in Japan, to make local calls and phone back to the UK?

Yes. you should be fine.

older blackberrys wouldn't have worked. but when you say bold it could either be the 9000 or the 9700.

however. your roaming will cost a fortune. so always try and connect to wifi where possible. Japan has no shortages of wifi spots

if for whatever you cant connect to wifi and want your data on. make sure you keep it manual select and use the network "Softbank" if you keep it automatic it will probs just live on "Docomo" which is poor for data

I can confirm that the Bold 9700 works fine in Tokyo (calls/messages/data). Fortunately I wasn't paying the bill...

As long as you have 3g you will be fine, are you paying for the calls ?

It was £1.30 a minute when I was there, to make or receive calls !!!

If you turn on your phone there so it connects to a network you will be charged that rate for all calls to your phone, even if it is turned off and goes to answer phone.

I just turned it off before I went and contacted people through the internet.
