chipped iPhone 4 screen :-(
Hi guys
So peeved right now as I dropped my iPhone 4 and chipped the screen on the top corner - where it meets the black rim aswell. What are my options to get this repaired? I only want gen Apple parts to be used but Im fearing the cost?? Any ideas? |

Take it into Apple tell them you have intermittent proximity sensor issues and signal issues they might exchange it.

An out of warranty repair with apple costs £140. If you have insurance you may be covered on that too

when you say "out-of-warranty" do you mean outside the 1yr from purchase? I bought the phone start of August 2010, with no insurance however....

I'd say dropping it and chipping the screen isn't included in the warranty, you would need an insurance to pay for the repair. But it's only my guess. I'd try the AxeVictim's suggestion. Jobs won't end up picking the bins because of that

Also OP - the 1 year warranty wont cover accidental damage. That is what the insurance would have been for. |

This is the very reason I use the free bumper that was provided.

Glass on both sides they don't stand a chance,
Steve Jobs certainly knows what he is doing. It is easy to consider that almost everyone has dropped a phone on the floor once or twice. Use a windscreen chip and crack repair kit? |

Hmm the "if your signal drops, then use your right hand" comment sounds like excellent CS
![]() I have been buying Apple products for years and have found their CS to be excellent. |

Apple decided to give everyone who wasn't happy with their purchase a complete refund or a case for free. more than most companies would do.
I have been buying Apple products for years and have found their CS to be excellent. I have bought products and used services. I have never had to ring CS for many of them - the products work as they should for a very long time. |

That still doesnt excuse the stupid comment by Jobs. If they were that good a company, they wouldnt have released a products with such a major fault.
I have bought products and used services. I have never had to ring CS for many of them - the products work as they should for a very long time. Apple products like all other companies often down't fail. For example I have 2 x iMacs (3 years old now) a much older iPod and a 2 year old iPhone 3G. None of these have failed. However my TV from Samsung and Laptop by Sony have both failed. CS is mainly about when a product does experience a fault (which all electronics do no matter who makes them), how the company deals with it. In many cases Apple will give you a replacement there and then, which is far better than most companies, hence why they are rated higher than any technology company for CS. |

It does use gorilla glass which is quite resilient, more so than many plastics.
Shattering news to know that it is harder than plastic? Gorilla glass is just another name for Pyrex. I find with pyrex kitchen stuff its 50/50 whether it breaks. All marketing gumpf. Use a bumper. Most will certainly need it at some time. |

If it's just the glass then they'll charge for the part needed, and the labour cost for the genius repairing it.
It'll be repaired in store for you. Bring it down and they'll tell you how much it will be to repair. |

According to Apple "20 times stiffer and 30 times harder than plastic"
Can be a bit of a pane at times. |
