I'd guessed as much, but it's still a decent listen. It manages not to sound as generic as the other shows.

26 minutes after midnight before a word was uttered by the presenter.
.Well.Nigel is soliciting for texts.so one has to assume he is live.Although what exactly would be the point in texting, with all the texts he is likely to receiveOne thing I did notice in the first half hour was that there were at least three songs with 'night' in the title. OH BAD PROGRAMMING. He started with Phil Collins 'One More Night'....and at 00,35..here comes Collin's voice again with Genesis 'Throwing It All Away' ![]() ..Nice to hear the song.but so soon after the Collins song???.Maybe 'Throwing It All Away' is Smooth's new theme song....

I'm sure I used to listen to this same guy under the guise of being NJ Williams on Chiltern Radio in the late 80's/early 90's. |

Certainly at this time of night it would be nice if they spoke a bit more, especially for those alone or lonely who rely on radio as a companion. Waiting 26 minutes into a show before an utterance is quite absurd. Although I wish they'd shove Dotun Adebayo (5 Live - Up All Night) onto Smooth as he needs to give his overused voice at this time of night a rest.

Surely people must agree that this is too long? It's just completely impersonal a show just cannot flow leaving this long? Even Magic speak more than this. Quite frankly at this rate there seems little point in having a presenter at all.

The music probably flows a lot better though.
Sorry, this is an old joke used by Tony Blackburn at least twice on radio in recent months in association to the track above!

The other thing I have noticed recently with Magic 105.4, is that they are playing a lot of surprises. I'm not sure if they have added a lot of songs on a low rotate, or if they are playing a lot of 'spot-plays' [or if the presenters are making changes to the playlist]. Some of the surprises that I have heard recently have been songs like I'm still standing, Heart and soul (TPau), Go your own way, Toy Soldiers, Over my shoulder, and U2's Pride. |

The presenters on Magic 105.4 are now having more frequent links. e.g. they now have a speed link within the 40 minute music sweep.

Hense why Magic is now very cluttered and the music isn't a patch on the Richard Park days. Sadly magic have messed with a good formulae and as a result there listeners are slowly declining.

The thirty second spot, created by Red Bee Media, features a central female character in her mid to late thirties called Melanie, who listens to Magic 105.4 with the ad visualising the effect the music has on her life.
It's been a while since there was TV and billboard ads for Smooth in London to create brand awareness, which it needs if it is going for Magic listeners.

Hopefully Smooth are starting to spread their wings a little music wise. I actually heard an 'obscure' track tonight whilst in the car .......... (Hi Gloss)
It's not obscure to me. I really hope they continue with these 'obscure' tracks.

The follow on presenter takes the news from the previous - similar to what Heart does.

Its just an internal Global thing he's from Capital FM so don't expect Smooth to expand the playlist anytime soon.

Have they also improved the day time play list, or is the overnight play list selected in a different way?
I have heard some real gems in the last few hours on Smooth. Songs they didn't even play on the 'old' Smooth (during normal shows anyway) Mtume (UK No 34 single) & Billy Griffin (just managed the Top 20), and song from Aretha Franklin that did not trouble the top 10. ![]() What's going on? ![]()
