the "new Smooth" this drive time is a nonsense. Drive time like breakfast time should be entertaining and informative currently it is neither.
they should reduce the programming to 4 hour programmes and start breakfast at 05.00 -09.00 and I think Carlos would be a great host followed by Simon with the Golden hour til 13.00 and Pat from 13.00-17.00 I think that is a good daytime lineup. now fill in the rest>>>>>>>>>>>> |

Am I actually dreaming this?
I've talked a lot about the evening show with David Jensen, mainly because it's the only one I really make a point of tuning into, but I thought I would give another show at a different time of day a listen as I had time to do so. Therefore at approximately 11.30am I turned Smooth Radio on, at an hour I never usually do, and much to my incredulity I was met with......wait for it......A Different Corner from George Michael. I'm living a groundhog day here! |

I think the truth is that people on here are radio lovers and it's just such a shame to see household name broadcasters being used by a network in such a way as to neuter them massively. Listening to David Jensen I was thinking it's a bit like the music equivalent of an in-car satnav giving directions and no more than the bare necessity needed.
"Music with Personality" would seem a good remit surely? I've been listening at different times today just to get a more balanced feel, rather than just the evening, and as soon as I turned on earlier within the minute I did indeed hear David Jensen give a 4.22pm timecheck, funny after what I said earlier today! |

Do some you guys realise how sad your obsession with Jensen makes you look ? If you hate Smooth so much switch off ! You seem to devote your lives to tracking his every word ..have you anything better to do ? ..you seem to want a high personality /comedy style form of presentation which I don't think your gonna get .Your entitled to your opinion but i think the stalking of this guy's style is worrying, I happen to enjoy the less cluttered style of presentation that Magic, Gold, and Smooth give me and the presenters on these stations hardly say anything as well but when they do it's clear concise and to the point and most of the time they tell me what I need to know ..time, weather, travel, and the next songs coming up.Each to their own

Yes three in a row with a bit of banter would be much better I reckon it would probably keep most people happy a sort of halfway house between old and new. I am sure the playlist will eventually be tweaked like has happened on Gold.

David alongside many other presenters on more music style Stations supply my needs with short bits in between song sweeps..but as I said before each to their own and respect for other opinions.
I'm going to call Carlos at 8pm and ask him to play me a tune. That's what he wants, right? A nice 70's classic. I'm going for Germ Free Adolescence by X-Ray Spex, as recently seen on a Jensen presented Top Of The Pops 1978. Chances? I can already hear the flea in my ear as I put the phone down. I notice on the Smooth website that there is a link opening an option to contact the show which gives a text number plus an 0844 number. I'm left wondering what kind of contact they are infact asking for, as I hear no listener feedback read out, so why use these options? |

You raise an interesting point actually which I had not considered before. There are people such as yourself and others who are more than happy with the music and minimal talk aspect between tracks, and there are also people like me and others who like the music played (even if it repeats too often) and like the presenter (David Jensen in this case) but just wish for that added ingredient that would really make it HIS show, alongside the music. In some respects Smooth Radio is currently falling between the two competing expectations from listeners.

Those who are most disappointed with Jensen are probably those, like myself, who remember him as the brilliant broadcaster he was, for his drive and evening shows at Radio 1. I would like to hear him cover the current, hopefully temporary, vacancy between 8.00 and 10.00 on Saturday evenings on Radio 2. I want to hear him talking about current music again and the American hits show would be ideal.
One irony of all this is that the man who brought long sweeps of uninterrupted music to daytime radio was Simon Bates. His morning show on Radio 1 was far more influential than he's given credit for. However, I reckon that he's now having to fight against the monster he helped to create. I'm pleased he's still communicating with and involving the audience during the Golden Hour rather than just allowing it to sound like the output during the rest of the day. |

AN EASY LISTENING STATION FEATURING EASY LISTENING MUSIC INCLUDING MUSIC INFLUENCED BY JAZZ AND SOUL AND LIFESTYLE ORIENTED SPEECH, TARGETING A LONDON AUDIENCE AGED 50-PLUS, AND BROADCASTING 12 HOURS A WEEK OF SPECIALIST MUSIC PROGRAMMES DURING EVENINGS OR WEEKEND DAYTIME.
What makes you think that Smooth can play anything from the 70s? If you ring up Simon Mayo on a Friday do you think he would play Rizzle Kicks or LMFAO? |

Well it was nice to hear the 'Kid' play Andy Gibb'I Just wanna Be Your Everything ' today. then he ruined my enthusiasm by saying 'There's Andy Gibb with a song I introduced on Top of The Pops and now the travel' ..What an utterly pointless unrelateable link...

Just to torture myself I've been revisiting parts of the 'Kid's career on You Tube and heard him start an edition of the Network Chart by announcing Heaven 17 as Heaven 'ONE SEVEN'
![]() This was in reference to their twelfth single.and one that came after their run of big hits! This surely must rate on the blunder scale similar to Blackburn's infamous 'Durran Durran' |

I really don't understand why if so many of the posters on this thread don't like Smooth, why still listen? OK, if it's piped through at work, then there is no choice, but if you choosing to listen to it and hating it, why bother? I listened for a few days when Global took charge and thought it was boring, so i haven't listened since.
If you don't like it, don't listen! Simples! |

If you don't like it, don't listen! Simples! Yes I am well aware Smooth needed to gain listeners particularly in London but I do not believe it needed such severe changes as have been implemented. I believe Global have alienated many of its existing audience when it could have been much more subtle and caused little upset. There would have been nothing wrong with playing more music but not with such a repetitive playlist as we now have in place and not by cutting the talk so drastic as has been done. Short announcements after say three songs would not have upset listeners so much as just a couple of announcements per hour. Its gone from a great station to almost a jukebox station with presenters who clearly are much more capable of giving better radio entertainment than they are currently allowed to do. So yes we are complaining and no doubt will continue to do so as the choice of stations left does not really give us anywhere else to go to get the sort of music variety and presentation that we used to get on Smooth. Oh & yes I have currently gone elsewhere mainly to my local commercial station and internet only stations but I would gladly come back to Smooth if fine tuning brought it a little closer to where it used to be. |
