Yes this thing about London is ridiculous. The UK does not begin and end in London it's about time the Advertising Agencies woke up to the fact and Global stopped getting so wound up about it. Most of us couldn't care less what Londoners listen to. We do have to spend money to survive outside of London isn't that strange?

Occy when you first started this thread I was over the moon about smooth going national and its all I listened took but now I just cant bear its anymor. Repetitive playlists and nopersonality from the DJ's such sad times and a shame for what's was a great station is now ruined.

Yes it's like trying to compare Tesco cheese slices with Asda cheese slices, they are totally different and not both just cheesy at all.

London is the multi-cultural centre not only of the UK, but one of the few truly 'world cities'. Like NY, 'if you can make it there, you'll make it anywhere...'

I think you'll find the new Smooth will gain traction outside of the South East, already the nay sayers are in a pronounced minority over on FB.

One change Global have made which is really good is you get 20 - 25 minutes of music from the hourly news to the ads it used to be 10 minutes. It used to drive you mad listening to adverts every 10 minutes in a hour.

All you get from Jensen for the 4.25 link into ads was ''there they are-the Philly Guys.next a lady from London''
Why this constant geographical CRAP.Every day reading it off a screen no doubt.
You know.there is a guy from Canada who is becoming extremely annoying.

''Booker Newberry the Third and now the travel''WHY DOES JENSEN EVEN BOTHER TO TURN UP? Oh yes.the money. No effort WHATSOEVER. He must bring a piece of old rope with him every day.

Listen to the charm of newsreader Alistair Yates,It's his show really. Says more,Connects more.

Why bother having any presenters, never mind some of the household names going back years that we all recall from better days. The presenter is almost a total irrelevance in that no individuals show has any distinct personality and difference to set it apart from any other. They are all the exact same, and just merge into one continuous playlist. I mean, what makes David Jensen's show any different from Lynn Parsons, except the time of day? Surely each individual presenters show should have it's own identity? The presenter is almost surplus to requirements on Smooth now. What a misuse of such a wealth of experienced talent. How soul destroying must it be.

One of the previous posters made a Smooth broadcasting analogy with "Gods waiting room". This must be why they keep inflicting that depressing funeral directors advert about 4 times an hour which I can do without hearing.

As I listen to The Sound Of Silence by Simon & Garfunkel right now on Smooth I am reminded of the lady I spoke to in a Costco warehouse about Smooth Radio yesterday as she was being compelled to listen to Smooth while she worked!

Which region is that in? I remember the former SAGA stations used to have some very depressing adverts for funeral directors, charities that allow cancer sufferers to die at home, that sort of thing. It was grim.

Wasn't that yesterdays anectdotal evidence?

Different ads for different regions? I'm in the place on the left, which is North Bucks, or for those doing the "Smooth Drive Home" junction 14 of the M1.

Pleased you read and recalled it. I was directly referring back to it on purpose, not trying to re-tell the same story. This repetition is catching...it must be the Smooth effect.

MAJOR ANNOUNCEMENT MADE BY DAVID JENSEN AT 7.55PM TONIGHT

ABBA MAY BE REFORMING IN 2014

He says "according to Agnetha, they may be reforming next year".

Massive news casually dropped into the final word of the show. Sublime, in the context of the rest of the show's oral content.

....now back to the treadmill.

Heard Smooth at work yesterday,

Oh it is sounding like durge.

Gold Lite or something?
Used to be nice oldies, with new tracks.
Used to be a rival to Radio 2,

Global have ruined another station.

No, that can't be true, SmartProgrammer! Because, apparently, the average Smooth listener will hear the same songs 5 or 6 times a week!

After reading about Jensen on here I thought I'd try to catch a little of the show yesterday. It was like being at the funfair when all the rides are shut. If felt very routine.

It sounds like David Jensen has been told to make his links short and minimal but I think he's taken the advice on board but a little too literally... There is nothing there.

Pat seems to fit in quite nicely with it though, he seems to have his little ways of doing things which make it his own.

Indeed.Over forty five years in radio and Jensen still can't interpret directions from programming management. He has led a charmed life.
