A quick listen to Magic this afternoon and they played new/unfamiliar tracks either side of a long ad break. With a bit of marketing, Smooth may well scoop a large chunk of their disaffected listeners.

Agreed, Magic is clearly the target here and Global have done it at the correct time. Magic is sounding very poor at the moment with too many "Spice" or unfamiliar songs, especially newer ones. It's also sounding very cluttered and not a patch on how slick it was a couple of years ago.

Smooth is pretty much being programmed like the old magic and once some disgruntled Magic listeners move there dial and hear Smooth i think it will be hard to get them back.

I think though when Smooth was ownded by GMG Media the kid hardly used to say anything there too... when Lynn Parsons etc... used to say loads more than they do now.......

As a listener I feel like I'm being treated with something close to contempt now. I turned Smooth off last night when Everytime You Go Away came on by Paul Young yet again sometime after 9pm. Tuned in a short while ago tonight to hear Everytime You Go Away by Paul Young seeming to literally take up from the exact point when I switched off last night. Not putting up with it tonight and it will remain off. This is too narrow minded even for the happily narrow minded, surely. Christ knows what Magic must sound like if this is preferable! This is not in the spirit of what radio should be about.

The trouble is Rich, you'd have them play known duds just to provide 'variety'. They're under no obligation to do this, and the experience elsewhere in the commercial radio world indicates that the chatty full service heritage stations have all been trumped by outfits with a tight list of winners and no pointless patter.

If tight playlists seem to work as people say they do, why Is Absolute 80s so popular on dab ? their playlist is very wide ?

Thankfully Globel don't have that station .

I had a listen to smooth , at 3.54 pm there was the most talk in one hour , the traffic news , and then nearly 5 mins of adverts . its to much, wont people forget the ads they are hearing as it all seems to go into one ?

I must admit its lifeless now , and I keep hearing Paul Young , and I only listen to it for a little while, even the compression on the station seems lifeless as well.

Has anyone thought of complaining directly to Smooth and if you do do you get a reply from Global?

I thought that might be the case. Can they not tell global how they feel or would that risk their jobs. I for one feel sorry for the likes of Bates Pat sharp and parsons all of which are fantastic but can no longer be themselves. Thanks for the update though. From a massive Smooth radio fan.

It could be Richard Park is focused on "More music less talk" than "Love life more music" to get the more mature ex London Magic listeners now Magic is more like Heart, so doubt if Global will change.

The best option is if a large group makes Global a good (several Millions) bid it can't refuse for the regional Smooths to buy them outright, rename them and start to programme them the old way (easy/soul/pop classics and new songs with plenty of chat to keep mature ex r1 70/80s listeners happy) in competition with London Smooth (which will remain on national digital platforms) and Gold?

It could be someone pays a lower figure to buy the stations just to relay Smooth London in a franchise, with Global doing national ads and they do local ad and travel opt outs?

Anyone know any easy/soul music loving millionaires with more than £30m spare to invest in regional stations with no guarantee of a large return?

Global Look into that comment but sadly take no notice so we still end up with the New Smooth London dribble.

I persevered with New Smooth, but i cannot do so any longer. For joined up talk between the records , it's back to crackly old am and magic north. Far superior to the fm version. In fact i am even drifting in and out of real radio for as long as that lasts...

There was a very interesting post on here late last night alluding to unhappiness within Smooth itself. Did I imagine it? Because it seems to have vanished! Now why would that be? It read as a perfectly reasoned and polite account of things.

I think the new line-up on Jazz fm is a better musical option now.

Most curious, as there are no gaps in the post listing numbers, but I definitely saw it and also a reply to it from Up To The Vocal which has also vanished. It was from a new poster I think, who had inside knowledge, but was written respectfully. I'm sure SuffolkBlue's post #2734 was a response to it too.

It wouldn't be the the first time that anti-Global posts have been removed.

I didn't see the post in question but the posts I've seen disappear in the past have usually been because they are clearly libelous rather than some great conspiracy to remove "anti-Global" posts - which of course there are plenty of on this forum.

My reply was a reply to the post thats missing. I wont say anymore about it other than apparently this person works at smooth. It was quite an interesting post however someone did say it could be against forum rules posting what was said so maybe thats why it was removed. Trust me i dont think it was a normal global basher.

Indeed, I checked all their previous posts (only 20 or so) and they were all about Deal or no Deal. They claimed to be a friend of a well known Smooth presenter.
