What were the Top 10 songs on this Top 500 list that Smooth asked it's listeners to shuffle around into an order for them? Have they published it on their website? I bet it's so utterly predictable.
They appear to have a team of oleaginous sycophants on their Facebook pages who seriously would like the 500 (songs by Paul Young) released on a very large micro CD.

Well I haven't listened to Smooth Radio all week. It's become too depressingly sterile.

Nice too have Gary King back on live radio this week for Carlos. I hope he's given another show apart from Sundays sometime in 2014.
Agree occy Gary King is good on smooth. I also really like carlos but smooth is still not a patch on what it was.

A couple of days ago I suddenly realised who this "Carlos" presenter actually is. I used to listen to him doing a very late night/overnight show back in about early 1988 on Chiltern Radio, under the name Carl Emms. What an egomaniac to have transformed himself into somebody known by just one name like that!
Call Carlos, is a bit rich. In 4 hours just how many listeners tracks come to air? Barely any. It doesn't do what it says on the tin.
I'm almost an ex-listener to Smooth Radio now. From the drop in comment here on this thread I would think quite a few others here are becoming so as well.

Apart from a quick listen in the car (Woman In Love by Barbra Streisand was on again!!) I have not tuned into Smooth for over a week now.

You've joined me then. Its really sad Smooth used to be on in this household from 7am to 5pm everyday. I did tune back a couple of days ago for a while as the local DAB mux was down and FM was suffering badly from interference but it didn't inspire me in any way to tune back permanently.
I just hope the RAJAR gets worse maybe then Global will think again.

It beggars belief that the listening figures could actually increase on the basis of the output I have been hearing. It is what I would describe as "dead behind the eyes" radio. It's there, but not at home, so to speak. Substitute "eyes" for "ears" I suppose.
The in-house radio being piped into my local co-operative food store has more going for it.
I bet Smooth is unlikely to last, as I cannot tell the difference between what it has now become and a Gold station. It's just one of those by another name.
So, that's all settled then. We can all wait and see what the listening figures are in 6 months time and then we will have empirical data as to whether Global know what they're doing or not.

Popularity as in listening figures doesn't necessarily indicate quality or that people like what they're hearing...but I forgot, its not about quality is it, its about profit. If it makes a profit, any old crap will do.
