Exactly. Quality is subjective anyway. What you think is quality I may not like but figures are not subjective. As you so rightly say its all about profit and bringing in more listeners.

No point in having a quality product if you can't make money out of it. That is why we have the bbc.

Don't quote me on it with Radio Times festive schedule, as they are using 3 different frequencies for the schedules which look different. Possible :

Christmas Day : Paul Hollins breakfast for Simon, Tina Holby in for Lynn, Christmas Day Specials. then Nigel Williams for Carlos

Boxing Day : Paul Hollins Breakfast for Simon, Myleene Klass Show for Lynn, Chris Kane for Pat , Emma B for David ,

If you were running a business, I doubt you would aim to lose large amounts of money month after month. After a while, no-one would lend to you anymore, so you wouldn't be able to run it that way even if you were foolish enough to want to.

Reckon most of that will be pre-recorded yet Gold have said they are live on Christmas morning kicking off with Dean Martin.

Let's face it, what difference does it really make? Almost none. The same generic output will prevail regardless.

The difference will not be noticeable. They have just shuffled the continuity announcers around.

Nice hearing Gary In for Lynn for the last few days. It's seems Gary is covering again for David Prever this Saturday. Then Monday 23rd sees Gary in for Pat and Paul Hollins in for David Jensen.

Because .obviously Jensen needs more time off for a rest because of the enormous amount of work he puts into his links.

great example from this week ''The Passednas and I'm Doin' Fine Now.and. I hope you ARE! and now the travel''

goodness me , that is a long link for the drivetime show!!!

And... it might be good that Gary is in for Lynn ,but ( I haven't listened to it) but I don't think it matters who they have on Smooth, as long as they're not allowed to have a link more than 20 seconds long they could put anyone on at all and it would sound the same!

I absolutely refuse to believe that David Jensen is happy in his job and the way he is having to present. Maybe this is his subtle way of showing it?

I'd still just love to know how, with so little speech and so much automation, exactly how he spends 4 hours each evening. Doing what precisely?

They've more or less banned presenters from speaking. Now they are starting to reduce their names, letter by letter.

By making sure you run over towards the end of the hour, maybe having played a few extra jingles so the end of the hour is so tight it sounds like you haven't got much time therefore you have to do the shortest of links, believe me it's a skill.

Basically the links are BORING. So many talented presenters being under used. Its a bit like a trained mechanic only being allowed to change car tyres!!!!!

I wouldn't be at all surprised that the main presenters will all leave when their contracts come to an end and are not renewed. Because Smooth doesn't make money, Global very likely can't justify paying of contracts...

To be fair Jensen was defiantly going to go, there was not a chance Global and Dick Stone would have been happy with what was going out between 4-8.

I am sure they will be much better off elsewhere instead of being gagged on new Smooth. I wish them both good luck for the future.

Jenson has sounded bored for ages, even before Global took over. Pat was never a Smooth Radio kind of guy in my opinion, a good jock on an unsuitable station.
Bates will probably be next, Global will want to save money where they can.

Agreed Jensen has sounded very flat for a long while i'm surprised it took Global this long to boot him but i'm guessing it was another mess up by GMG in regards to his contract. Pat i agree never sounded at his best on Smooth, the type of show Pat sounds great at is something like Club Classics on Heart.

Very sad news. I wish them both for the future and were a big part of Smooth Radio.

Now I think people need just wake up a little and stop the slagging off as it's really unfair on those working in the industry. Know one no's the circumstances around the departures.

As this is a discussion forum that is extremely unlikely to happen. However I do agree with you and think that we should now shut up and let the next RAJAR do the talking.
