Well i guess that message that was posted on here about some DJ,s not happy at the new smooth was true then. Such a shame as i like pat sharp but jensen did sound bored. I wish them luck but i dont listen to smooth like i did as its so boring and predictable with ABBA one of us etc. Typical Global radio. I do like Gary king though so good luck to him i hope he gets a regular slot.

Delighted Jensen has gone.Best Christmas present ever.Now they can set about putting some different songs on the system.
Difficult to think where Jensen could appear next unless it's back to Gold in some shape or form.If he is lucky enough to secure another gig in independent radio,just look for the bluster of the big signing,then wait a few weeks before he starts to get lazier and lazier in his presentation.
You cannot rely on just having a heritage voice,you have to do something with it.

I don't listen to Smooth anymore - used to think it was really good. Good luck to Pat Sharp - really enjoyed your shows up until when you weren't allowed to talk more than a few words. Hope we hear you back on the radio soon. Such a shame how Smooth has treated it's listeners and now it's presenters.

As i have said before i think Pat would sound great on Heart, especially on Club Classics or on the 7-10pm slot.

It will be interesting to see in the new year if Gary King does take over Pat's slot and Paul Hollins the drivetime show or whether they bring in any new names......Richard Skinner springs to mind?

Give it a few months and I'm sure that one of them will end up being on Magic FM

or even Magic AM up north!

Funny thing Pat had already done a couple of gigs on Magic London a few years back.

Maybe David Jensen to Magic and Pat Sharp to Absolute. i think he would do well on Absolute 80's actually especially if they were to introduce a separate Breakfast show on that station.

I think we will need to see what happens to Absolute after the OFT decision is announced tomorrow.

I do wonder if Absolute 80s will survive - maybe Bauer will go with Absolute, Magic & Kisstory in those three slots.

Hmmm, it is very interesting that Pat and Kid Jensen have just left like that - sort of overnight. It sounds to me as if they've been "let go" by Global. If they were both on as normal and suddenly Gary And Paul are covering for them now, they must have been sacked, or their contracts are up and they didn't want to renew them, especially if Pat and the Kid didn't say any goodbyes on air yesterday. It must be awful for anyone with a show, knowing they are going to get the boot, but they're not allowed to mention it, or say any goodbyes and pretend they're leaving for pastures new.

It is interesting though that they have left on exactly the same day. Like someone else said on here, I think this is the start of the Global changes. But if Gary and Paul are covering (I imagine these 2 are must cheaper to pay than Kid and Pat) they will be working 7 days a week, unless someone else is covering their weekend shows.

Indeed Paul Hollins and Gary King are both on for the next 7 days in a row (just checked schedules) people must get sick of hearing them by then, but they'll be glad of the extra wages I suppose. You can't turn work down now in this economic climate.

Going more like gold everyday with limited presenters. If pat goes to magic london i dont see the point as they have a no talk more music policy. I thought magic was coming to national dab in the new year.

Is there any truth in the rumour that Smooth are going to adopt Cliff Richards classic "We don't talk Anymore" as the station theme tune. LOL.

I cannot see Simon Bates staying much longer either....Global however need to have a bigger name in place ready to cover the Breakfast slot before they will let him go..

It comes to something when DJs with 40 plus years of experience are replaced by people no one knows or cares about. It us all about creating a bland, cheap load of tat to cater for gullible idiots to sell advertising to. Pile it high. Sell it cheap. Global radio. Bargin basement crap to cater for the brain dead. The radio equivalent of the horse meat burger. Sell crap to the idiots. They don't know any better. Let's see how long we can get away with it.

As opposed to GMG who had such a roaring success with the station. Exactly how many listeners did they lose from the days when it used to be Jazz FM? Then there were the huge financial losses - obviously that's not a problem because commercial radio doesn't need to make a profit does it?

In the North West:
Jazz FM's final RAJAR: 381,000 (Q1, 2004)
Smooth's latest figure: 814,000
Increase of 433,000

Although I'm not against the new 'Magic' style format and think it might do even better.

Of course they have both gone. A blessed relief for the both of them I can assure you. If anyone listening thought that those behind the microphone were happy at Smooth Radio and what they were delivering in recent months then they ought to be in no doubt that it was not the case and I can absolutely assure you that the one presenter I know was absolutely disgusted by the state of affairs, from the curtailing of any meaningful speech to reach out to the audience to the appalling playlist. I can also tell you that they read this forum and I have been given a nod to forwarding certain opinion, as well as my own. I'm not prepared to actively name names, but anyone with a modicum of intelligence can draw their own conclusions with reasonable accuracy I am sure.

I also want to point out that not only has the Smooth listening audience been treated with near contempt in the last few months, but their own presenters and others have too. The treatment has been very poor. Not my own words, but those of a voice heard on Smooth to my face. To put it bluntly, both of these presenters are better off out of Smooth Radio because they are better than Smooth Radio as it now exists. I'm sure others will follow.

So disgruntled listeners to Smooth, you have had your champions behind the mic and people with many years radio experience, despite the management speak and business model excuses that have been peddled on here to try and "educate" listeners about the path going forward to potential bigger audience shares and increased profitability.

Smooth Radio as it now exists does not deserve, or infact need any broadcaster of calibre from this point onwards. Somebody previously mentioned "continuity announcers" which is about the level Smooth now requires. An actual broadcaster? Forget it.

Are Sharp and Jensen going a global or Park decision?

Your opening line seems to suggest that Jensen being on the station was stopping Smooth putting different songs on the system. Why would that be? Do you think he chose the music he played.

The Smooth format was not right for David, Pat neither to be fair. Both need a platform where they can express themselves. Smooth isn't it.

Many x commercial presenters are now finding homes at BBC local stations so maybe Pat will end up at one, not sure i can see David at a local BBC station but you never know.

Lets get Pat on Radio Jackie.

Maybe Kid will end up on Magic North- but do they really need anyone else at the minute? Could they afford him. It might be good to hear him on a different outlet to see what he is actually like when he is allowed to have a personality- I couldn't stand him on Smooth. Maybe these past few weeks he knew his time was up- or did they come out of blue to sack him?

I always judge people and businesses by the way they treat people, and on the face of it the sudden leaving of David Jensen, and Pat Sharp, smacks of a brutal immediate dismissal. What a dismal employer. We knew that they would have stand ins from next week over the Christmas period anyway, so why drop Jensen & Sharp from their shows midweek and not at least have allowed them to finish on the Friday before Christmas after just 2 more days? What is that mentality? Is it to pre-empt any possibility that the presenter might just say something on air on the last day, even something as benign as a simple goodbye?

Radio seems such a fickle business and no respecter of reputations, but radio also seems like endless revolving doors. Out one and in the other.

Paul Hollins may be a little bit cheaper but Gary King would be certainly on near the same money. Both presenters though are not exactly cheap options, i expect both their show fees are pretty hefty. Paul earns enough from his syndication business so i doubt he would do it for little.



Ahhh now i think Bates has actually got used to the format and is working it really well now. If he does go as said it will be a big name that takes over, you only have to look at Global's other flagship London Breakfast shows to see that.
