Dick Stone. Appropriate name.

I have been following this thread for a couple of months and although I agree with some comments, I disagree with some. Yes Global have introduced its limited playlist and the gagging of personality is very much apparent. But I also think that GMG destroyed the Saga format which was different and very much needed. All GMG done was to chase Magic and Radio 2 and in my opinion they didn't do that with much success. As for 'Kid Jensen' he always sounded bored and in my opinion he always lacked personality, always did sound like it even going back to his Radio 1 and Capital days. I also think that Magic London lacks any warmth, having moved from London to the north last year the northern Magic has more personality. I always think that Smooth could have been much more under it's previous owner and that GMG missed a trick.

I don't think you can include Gary King in that description. He must have nearly 30 years in the radio business behind him, and plenty of people in the age group that Smooth are after will ahve heard of him from his days at Radio 1, Atlantic 252 or Piccadilly.

Even bigger cuts here at Smooth Glagow - they are only broadcasting using the right channel! So now I have the choice of national Smooth in mono but coming out of both speakers or local Smooth in 'stereo' but only coming out of one speaker. Great choice.

Smooth have just posted on Facebook: Smooth Radio is pleased to announce that from the New Year, Anthony Davis will be joining the station to present the Smooth Drive Home.

Every weekday Anthony will present four hours of the best music from the past five decades.

You can hear Anthony from 4pm on Thursday 2nd January.

That's a turn up for the books. He's staying in the building, but a different floor. I think he'll sound good on Smooth and someone different. Has he done music radio before?

Yes, he did a Jazz Fm show for a while and i think Capital Life. He has a great voice for radio and i think he will suit smooth well.

Seem to recall he did Breakfast on Capital Life - he did a pretty good job of it from what I remember. I think Nicola Bonn did daytimes on Life around the same time.

Sorry but Jensen sounded just as bored when GMG were in charge, in fact he has sounded bored for years, even when doing mid mornings on Gold.
Jensen is a good broadcaster but I don't think there are many independent stations left that suit his style.

The same goes for Pat. He won't be going to Heart anytime soon or Gold. The only place for him is probably Magic but again that isn't his style either.

So he leaves LBC a talk radio station to join a station that he will not be allowed to talk on!!

Maybe fed up with the sound of his own voice!
In all seriousness maybe the late nights took their toll and he wanted something he felt was a bit easier.

Isn't the Smooth Radio twitter pathetic.

They're quite happy to tweet about their new Smooth Drive Home host, while being totally disingenuous and not even mentioning the departure of two of their presenters on a twitter that is meant to inform about the station.

That's just how it goes. It's like Robbie Vincent's departure from Jazz FM recently; the station glossed over it, didn't allow him a final show and just promoted the replacement.

That is a private matter and nothing too do with you, me and anyone else.

It's not private that they've left, and a thank you wouldn't go amiss in their comms. Corporate comms that don't understand how customers interact with an interactive brand really need to be improved!

We know they have gone, but it's a private matter between the company and these two how they left. Why does everyone want to know the inside story?

Fantasy time: Pat Sharp to Absolute 80s!

I did not become a wide range Radio 1 listener until 1986/7 so have no experience of David Jensen at the BBC but as for Capital I'm afraid I have to disagree because his drivetime show on 95.8 Capital FM really sounded lively as did his drivetime shows on London's Heart 106.2FM and his late and morning shows on Gold.

At Smooth however he sounded voice tracked so the format did not suit him, after today's news regarding the takeover of Absolute Radio I just wonder whether David will be signed up to present a rock style show maybe 8-10 or 8pm-midnight?.

Pat could also be on Absolute 80s and the other possibility is Jack FM as the owners of Absolute are leaving on the 31st December and will be able to concentrate on building up Jack.

I never said I care about the inside story - I don't.

What I find disingenuous is companies that depend on interaction with their consumers who then fail to even mention a change that may leave those consumers wondering what happened. A simple "thank you to Pat Sharp and David Jensen who've moved on" would be enough!
