Just like what Heart does? I guess that's what Global want to make the stations run the same. Cheaper and tidy option.

But instead of lots of opt outs, will Smooth just keep the 6?

But this isn't the critical yearly quarter is it. From what I recall it was around October 1st that things changed and began alienating listeners, well me anyway. So it's the final quarter of 2013 that will be very interesting to find out.

The survey dates were 16th September to 15th December, so all but two weeks are the new Smooth.

I see. The mention of Q3 to me just automatically related to July 1st to September 30th. Thanks for the link.

Ok so does anyone know whats happening to Smooth. I listen to it on D1 but apparently its coming off there to be replaced by gold or their new station. I know smooth is going onto AM but will it still be avaliable on dab on the Norwich multiplex. Im starting to like smooth so it would be a shame if it came of dab for AM only

If you are in an area where you can receive Gold on AM you should be able hear Smooth when it takes over from Gold on local DAB.

For more information please check this list:

Smooth will not be on AM in London, East Midlands and London

I also listen to Gold on DAB on the local Norfolk mux and on 1152AM now I know I will lose AM to Smooth but will Gold remain on the local DAB mux. I hope so as I don't listen to Smooth anymore.

I think Darren would be particularly good doing the "more music" breakfast format similar to what Bates is doing at the moment.

I would expect where Smooth replaces Gold on AM, it would also be the same for the relevant DAB simulcast.

From what I read no.
Seems that if Gold and Smooth were both targetting older listners, Global has gone for the Smooth brand. I get that as Heart is lite on 'rock', and so is smooth.

I think if you enjoy, The Kinks, The Who, Rolling Stones etc they won't get much airplay on any Global outlets.

Similar with the new 70s,80s. 90s station, I am not expecting much Genesis, The Jam, U2, Simple Minds, Oasis, Blur, Pulp etc on the 'new' station.

IMO unless you are a 'guitar' band with a song that has been on a major movie soundtrack forget airplay ion Global stations.

Global, really sounds Global in some ways. A lot of songs I hear on Heart sound straight off American movie soundtrack. Which, in London and other places is good as they are'global' cities.

If you want to hear music from 20th Century which was played on British Radio the closest it seems Radio 2, or the Absolutes nearly get it.

Thanks for the info. Looks like Golds audience will plummet then. I have no intention of going back to Smooth as it currently stands. Seems odd given the following Gold has.

I would agree with this. There's still an audience for classic pop/rock and Gold does a good job. As someone who worked at Classic Gold back in the 90s, it would be a shame for it to go.

I strongly believe that Global want this to happen, makes it easier to close it down then doesn't it?

Of course it does. I feel sorry for Tony and Dean etc who have built it up. Smooth is far too laid back and bland for me. The music on Gold is so much better.

Paul Phear will be doing Smooth Breakfast Glasgow.

From London? I doubt he'd want to move all the way up to Glasgow.

I'd like to know your source.
Paul isn't a known radio voice in Scotland, he's been on the radio in London for years & years at both Capital & Magic.

I still think he will be presenting Breakfast on Smooth in London if they do go back to regional programming.

Let's just say, I saw a very well known Broadcaster say "Good luck on Smooth Breakfast Glasgow" to the actual person on a certain Social media site.....It wasn't denied by Paul himself either. ......in fact, he "liked" it.

As it goes, if Tony Blackburn says it to Paul....I'd believe it.

Hope that'll do for you.

Yes I saw that, don't see why Tony would lie. Bit of a move for Paul but maybe that's what he wanted.
