Had to laugh seeing Richard Park on an item on 'The One Show' this evening talking about music on radio driving home with the radio on ''and all of a sudden that absolute gem comes on''.. Well, he ain't talking about Smooth...

I think Andrew Castle will do well at breakfast especially if he has someone to bounce off. Sad that Lyne Parsons is going. BBC Radio 2 or BBC London?
Bates for Magic FM or Magic north network. |

Simon Mayo was tonight's guest. He must have been talking about Radio 2 as I'm sure Park has more sense than to listen to Smooth.

David Prever will be alright as he does PR stuff anyway.
Lynn Parsons has good contacts at the BBC. Simon Bates, not sure where he could go next. Carlos, I hope he stays on somewhere, if not then loyalty counts for nothing as he's been at Smooth for some time. Chris Skinner......who?? Paul Phear, worst kept secret in Radio....we knew he would head to Smooth. Myleene Klass, she's a good presenter on Classic FM, she'll be alright on Smooth. Kate Garraway has done stints on LBC years ago, but I can't see it working out for her on a music station. Andrew Castle on a music Breakfast show. Neil Fox has nothing to worry about ![]() |

David Preever presents drive on BBC Radio Oxford Mon-Fri and breakfast on BBC 3CR Saturday mornings so he'll have more than enough to cope with!

Myleene Klass.
100% will have to avoid her shows. She is insufferable. Andrew Castle. The only good thing about him joining Smooth is he'll hopefully be absent from his tennis commentary duties. Every silver cloud, but I bet he has a clause in his contract to cover Wimbledon for the BBC. ![]() I shall miss the Pete Waterman show, The only good show they had .... and they drop it. |

The Facebook page has hundreds of negative comments about the Z listers who have severely limited experience of music radio!
No doubt "Daddys Boy" will order some lacky to delete them all in the morning! |

Always amazed me how he managed to start at 10 am from Smooth in London when his 3CR breakfast show ended at 9.

I wonder if Carlos will move when Three of the six Smooth stations are awaiting approval to be owned by Denis O’Brien’s Communicorp Group, but will continue to take a national feed of programmes from London off-peak. Quote:
Most of the changes will take place on March 3rd. (Not All)
I wonder if Chris Skinner be leaving Heart Cambridge Drive? |

Personally I don't mind Andrew, it's Kate Garraway that I have never taken to. Mylene did host a show on Smooth over Christmas and she wasn't too bad, better than Tina Hobley but then that's not saying much. The only shining light is that Paul Phear will be part of the Smooth line up. I guess he jumped ship from Magic to get national exposure. I wonder when the local show presenters will be announced. |

Smooth London - HUGE potential
Quote:
It is a sad day, when they have had all loyal listeners for the last 3 + years.
Magic: 1,754,000 listeners Smooth: 441,000 listeners Magic: 9,772,000 hrs per wk = 4.8% share of listening Smooth: 2,293,000 hrs per wk = 1.1% share of listening That 102.2 frequency alone simply has so much potential. It won't happen overnight, but if Smooth can even slightly dent Magic's audience and keep Heart and Capital in the top slots in London (and possibly LBC too), then it will be a case of "job done" for Global. If Smooth can eventually even hit half a million listeners, then it will be deemed a huge success and start to be highly profitable brand for the group. And it will happen. I expect a huge marketing campaign by summer, if not sooner.... M |

The "majority" are those normal listeners who aren't on forums and don't follow radio stations on FB. You can bet that many of them will not be impressed at losing Bates from breakfast or Lynn from mid morning for that matter. Just because they don't moan in public does not mean that they will accept the changes and stay with Smooth.
There are always complaints on Facebook when changes are made, and then things settle down and people get on with it. The same thing happened with TFM last year. Global had to do something, they couldn't leave it as 22nd in the London market place and just accept it. |

Andrew always took the Wimbledon fortnight off when he was on Daybreak so he will either do the same or, as his show will end at 10am and the tennis doesn't usually start until noon at the earliest, do both..
If not, I presume it will be a talk based breakfast show. Sorry, another talk based breakfast show. |

Often think that R1 DJ's who were in their mid-late forties when Bannister took over were pretty unlucky. They were dismissed at a reasonably young age, with no natural home for them at that time. Under Beerling, Bates would still be doing mid-morning!

Many of them will be from outside London, so they wouldn't have had Bates on breakfast even if he had stayed on Smooth London. I think most of those posters don't realise that regional breakfast shows are returning.

If not, I presume it will be a talk based breakfast show. Sorry, another talk based breakfast show. Since Global took over programming of Smooth Bates' chat has been cut right down - his links and short and to the point - maximum I've heard him talk is a minute and that was to promote a competition. I can't imagine that will change too much with the new breakfast shows. I actually think Andrew will suit Smooth - could be a risk to drop him straight in at breakfast but I imagine they'll be working on the show first. Not too sure about Kate Garraway although I think she's a good signing to attract people to the station. She just needs to work on getting her husband on LBC! |

Only Wright and Blackburn of the 80's generation have made it to Radio 2 albeit not directly. Its a sham that we have a 30 something presenting Sounds Of The 80's. Was looking forward to Smooth moving to MW to be able to catch Bates in the car on a morning, sadly that's not now going to happen, I'll stick to my Ipod.... |
