Out of curiosity just tuned in she's either voice tracked or scripted and totally bland. Back off to Gold now.

If music radio novices like Garraway hear others like Emma B do it,they'll just follow like lapdogs,It's a shame radio has got into this state, and I'llbe as hasrsh as I like.thank you. You can't just be parachuted onto one of the biggest radio shows in the land and not be criticised,Sorry.
I wasn't aware it was one of the biggest radio shows in the country, so thanks for clearing that up. I guess you do not like it so will probably, like me, retune to a different radio station where the presenter knows he/she is only talking to you and nobody else. Let Smooth lose a listener - stick it to Global!

I reckon Bates would be excellent on the Saturday slot currently held by Anneka Rice,AND what about,,Simon Bates;Love Songs LIVE on Sunday 9-11 with Our Tune thrown in.I can only fantasise...
Something we can agree on here! Simon would be great on Sunday Love Songs, it would be right up his street, won't happen though sadly.

Thanks for a good laugh.

Firstly, no one who has a comprehensive music knowledge of the decades. What about Richard Park ? He's produced music logs for Top 40 stations since 1966. I would say he's got a pretty good music knowledge having worked in music for that long. Producing logs for Top 40 stations he knows all the big solid hits from everything to the mid 60's to today.

If you think Tony Blackburns music knowledge is good then i can sure bet that Parks is just as good if not better.

In response to the consultant bit, why ? Richard Park has the knowledge and skill to do it himself. Look at his past, Magic 105.4 the exact station Smooth is pretty much trying to be now. He was the guy who had the success of programming its winning format originally so theres no better person to do it. He has been in music radio for over 40 years working at not just a big city station but the ultimate big city station, Capital and not only that programmed Capital in what is regarded as the best ever sounding commercial station ever in the UK, the Music Power era.

EDIT: The post above has proved my point, Richard Park is the man for the job.
He started on the pirate station "Radio Scotland " and was one of the Launch jocks at Radio clyde Hogmanay 1973, He done the lunchtime show on Clyde for years , a 60s music show " Dr dicks midnight surgery" on the station, done the sports show as well .

Think he was programme controller as well and was well known doing night-clubs gigs all over the west of Scotland!

What? The show is quasi national on FM..DAB, Freeview. Sky and about to be rolled out on over 20 AMtransmitters and you say that's not one of the country's biggest shows? What planet are you on?

It was not any different, you are right. That's both 'Songbook' shows off my list now. It's definitely not a specialist show.
Smooth seems to have re-written the dictionary and the meaning of certain words. I dipped into that show. It was pleasantly inoffensive but no more than a continuation of the 24 hour homogenous sound they put out anyway.

It amuses me how a lot of people on here complain about the repetition on Smooth, but no-one seems to complain about the repetition on Real XS or Magic 105.4.

Oh yeah, that's right - those stations aren't being run by Global Radio!
It could possibly be that, like myself, the people who listen to Smooth do not, or never have listened to the other stations you name. Easy really when you think about it.

I suspect he's forgotten more than you'll ever know about successful radio

I cannot see much job satisfaction for Garraway in uttering about two sentences every fifteen minutes or so. Then, with all the charisma of the speaking clock, saying "and now something from the legend Bill Withers." If she is indeed there, what exactly does she do during the gaps between her being required to speak? Go off to read a book (The Observer's Book of Great Radio Links) in trap one? Or just sit there staring into space until the next red light appears?

Yes, I bet the money is great, but what a completely soulless method of earning it.

Listening to that sort of garbage (I managed about 20 minutes) tends to create severe cases of ridiculous reactions.

Not quite in the same league as The Ken Bruce show but I understand your point. I will never listen to Kate as I don't much like her, there again Lynn Parsons was always fairly bland on Smooth as well. My opinion is that Kate will be gone by Christmas to do "other projects" I cannot see her sticking with it.

Oddly I have had the same thought, I think Toby could eventually be replaced on Heart by Stephen Mulhern but not for a year or 2 yet

He will probably be replaced by someone like Christine Bleakley as Global are into TV presenters on the radio these days.

Garraway says ''I hope you ALL had a great weekend''. Radio is a one to one medium, love.
"Greetings, pop pickers."

How can you be so dismissive of a radio legend is beyond belief!
Are there two Roger Days then?

The only one I can find any reference to works for some tinpot community station in Surrey.

Hardly the stuff of legend ...
