Just done a quick check and I think I've found part of the issue, listening to Dusty Springfield - Son of a preacher (one of those 60's stereo seperation songs), Yorkshire has the stereo effect one way, D1 has it the other way, how bizzare, only snag is, I don't know which multiplex is the 'right way round' as my dodgy hearing doesn't do stereo.

Does not look like Seal's wife will be listening!

At the beginning, twangy bit left, drum right.

Looks like about £300m of licence fee TV DSO surplus will go back to the Government,
http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2010...ations-surplus
If the decision is not until next year this must be frustrating!

Even if part of this is used to expand the BBC mux to 98% population coverage, D1 and MXR/D2 might benefit as installing extra commercial transmitters at the same time as the BBC transmitters and masts will help reduce the rollout cost to expand D1 coverage from 90% to 98% !

There is a case for going DAB+ as 20 mixed BBC and commercial stations could have shared a national mux reducing costs even further, but there are too many non DAB+ sets currently in use!

A shame London won't get Rock Radio - I do like a bit of rock - though it could appear elsewhere on one of the three muxes.

French Radio London indicating a November launch on DAB: http://www.frenchradiolondon.com/dow...ss_Release.doc

Rock on DAB in London is saturated, Absolute Classic Rock and Planet Rock have the classic rock side with Xfm, Kerrang and Amazing Radio with the new material.

GMG don't have a brand which they could simulcast in London that doesn't clash with another groups.

The only way Rock could launch in London is for GMG to cease DAB coverage of Jazz FM on London 1.

No!! not removing Jazz FM again!
London 3 has some spare space vacated by Passion and Dabbl, with possibly Galaxy also going in January!
Hopefully Passion for the Planet and NME will return!
but with other stations covering rock, agree GMG will not rush to put Rock radio in London!

Is it Tony Blackburn's last weekend on Smooth before going to R2 as he is still in the schedule?

Rather surprisingly, Dave Brown seems to be voicetracked today. Not great for a Sunday afternoon show

To be honest I though a lot of national stations VT'd on a Sunday afternoon. It is a time where I think most people want to hear the music, not worry about interacting (e-mail. phones etc) as they spend quality time with family and friends.

Johnnie Walker and Paul O'Grady sometimes pre - record there shows on Radio 2.

It's just a bit of a change for Smooth who have, until now, always been live on a Sunday afternoon...

I hate it when i know a show is pre-recorded , i think it loses it's feel to me., knowing the presenter recorded it a few days in advance and they're not really there! But most of the listreners cannot work that out though!!

That's the last we'll hear from Graham Dene for a few weeks then...

Not all Smooth stations - before networking Smooth North West was voicetracked after 2pm on Sunday and the Midlands stations either VT'ed 2-5pm or 5-8pm or even both.

Smooth on 102.2 is utterly dreadful.

It's actually worse now than it has ever been.

This afternoon I heard Dave Lincoln (who I recall sounded dated on Radio City in the late 1970s) doing a bizarre feature - the 3 o'clock coffee shop?

FFS!

Magic and Heart are pissing themselves.

I doubt Global and Bauer are in the slightest bit concerned about Smooth's latest exploits in the London market.

They're not putting the tv ads on ITV1 London, nor has 102.2 contain specific local content, which is almost giving up on the capital.

Those loyal listeners who continue to enjoy the station in London will have to get used to travel news and weather featuring northern England, Scotland etc instead of London information.

I completely agree Martin.

They've given up on London.

Thats a good feature. Time to put the kettle on and Dave Lincoln drinks black tea, with the tea bag in for 5 minutes. Starbucks will be advertising the slot soon.

Because between Heart & Magic they've got the market sewn up and they do it a hundred times better.

102.2 has one good use for GMG, it's a lucrative licence and Smooth can go to national advertisers and say we're on in the nations capital. If people are still listening to it in London is debatable though.
