What a pile of sh*** that advert is and what a shame Global never bothered to properly promote Gold to give it a chance. Certainly its no longer a level playing field.

They can advertise it all they like and listeners will probably try it but the boredom factor will soon set in.

Since Smooth norfolk started thankfully the london adds have gone. Mad bid etc. I must admit that done my head in too lol.

Will someone please tell me what is so special about Kate Garraway that she deserves a slot on both radio and TV while radio professionals have been sacked? Its totally outrageous.

Gold gone from AM, Smooth in it's place and LBC instead of Smooth on DAB, but now in Suffolk, Smooth is back on DAB.
Have I missed something?

It's life unfortunately. Clearly ITV and Global see something in her that a lot of us just cannot see. She has survived the axing of GMTV, she will now survive the axing of Daybreak and will be part of Good Morning Britain AND Smooth - it's odd that she has now been involved with 2 failed TV shows yet keeps being employed!

She must be cheap to employ. Ten minutes on the Lottery Show.

I would say you're spot on.......plenty of females down the years have kept themselves in the public eye, despite the general public wondering why!

The REAL proof of how popular they are is when their autobiographies are in the "bargain bin" section of bookshops a couple of days after release

LBC replaced Jazz FM on D1
Smooth replaced Gold on some AM and local stereo DAB areas.
Smooth is still on D1, but will be replaced by a new Global station maybe with new name, maybe May?
Places like Suffolk will then lose Smooth on DAB as there is no local mux

Aled Jones finished Daybreak the other week and was at Global for Classic FM in for John Suchet thanks too Motorbike Taxi. It can be done. As Kate show isn't Automated as Myleene is on a Saturday and her contract let's her she is able to cover Lorraine and take a break from Smooth which is probably added into Emma contract to cover so many shows. I think some are finding any holes to pick at cause someone isn't doing there shows and being nasty - l don't think some of you would like it if the tables were turned on them.

Is Daybreak broadcast from the old LWT at South Bank?

Putting my two penneth in now, No offence intended to Charlie Jordan but I reckon if we hadn't have had the sad passing in July of last year of Dave Hickman I think Dave would have got the drivetime show at Smooth West Mids. A sad loss to the radio industry.

There is no need for nastiness of course but to have a week off when you've only been on air 5 weeks is a bit much and doesn't really give you time to get settled.

So you've never started a new job with some holidays already booked or appointments made that you must honour?

It's probably in Kate contract and crossed over as Global wanted her too start with an already on going contract with ITV daybreak.

But it just goes to show that these TV luvvies have no love of or affinity to radio. When push comes to shove radio is always the poor relation.

Yes I have, and it was made quite clear to me that I would be expected to start work at a particular day at a particular time with all other considerations re-arranged...if I wanted the job.

Guess what...I re-arranged! ... but we're talking an ordinary bloke in the real world, not a media luvvy!

Kate looks pretty good for her age but then that's not important for radio!!!!

Had to laugh at someone's comment on the Radio Today website where they refer to people complaining about the recent changes at Smooth radio as 'terminal anoraks', while the people who have taken to the current format they refer to as 'Mrs Normal Listener'. Well, as an 'ex-listener' of Smooth I certainly don't consider myself as a 'radio anorak' (whatever that term really means), but just a person who listens to the radio mindfully, appreciating both musical variety and the in-put of 'experienced' radio presenters who are engaging with their audience through their warmth and genuine passion for radio. Oh well, time will tell in the end if the type of radio Global are putting out will be seen as the 'norm' or whether real/pure radio run by people with a genuine love of radio will shine through.

People that do not love the new Smooth are call 'anoraks' on here as well (on this very thread) I personally couldn't care less if I am labelled an 'anorak' It shows the mentality of some people, when 'anorak' is the only word they can use to describe posters that have re-tuned away from the new Smooth.

IMO the new Smooth is dreadful. Thankfully I have now found a host of different stations to keep me happy. So I am now a happy 'anorak'
