I think this thread now compliments the nature of Smooth Radio to perfection.....

The same old arguments keep rotating on an overly regular basis in perpetuity!

They have just played Let It Be again sadly about the only Beatles track on the playlist these days.
Think that sums it up. There's not much more that can be said RAJAR will decide its future.
Bye.

Indubitably. It seems on/off switches are a thing of the past.

Candle in the Wind, on a loop, combined with Kate Snoozeaway reading out the posts would make this thread everything Global believe entices repeat business.

It's the apparent haters who post more about the station!

Apparently they are turning off and never listening again - only to come back and comment on it! It's all very "Look at me! Look at me!" attention seeking!

I rather fear that the RAJAR figures will show an increase in London and maybe a fall up north. But global won't care as it's London they are interested in like all their other stations. This is why apart from drive and breakfast all their stations broadcast from London.

To quote what John Myers said on his blog recently

People who hate are just brilliant at promoting it because they tell everyone about it.
That's very true and is evident here.

Can't get into Paul phear. Despite trying I preferred Gary king. Paul is just so sleepy and he messes up text messages that he reads. Sorry smooth I tried but this really is poor now.

We all know that "It Is Only Radio" (in the words of John Myers) and ultimately what will be will be, nothing anyone says is going to change anything. I can also totally understand people within radio such as John Myers are probably wise to be philosophical about big changes in radio, they realize that these changes are going to happen (be them good or bad) and that this is the world of radio.

It is a real pity though when people who are willing to be wear their heart on their sleeve in turn then risk opening themselves up to ridicule. One would hope that people (within radio) would maybe appreciate that there are some people who care enough about 'true' radio to express their feelings about it.

I think those posters who open their opinions and postings to ridicule are the people who say I am never going to listen to Smooth again ..and then keep giving detailed analysis of the station. These people know who they are ..they look foolish ..how can you comment when you have said I am finished with Smooth ..at least apologise about fibbing and admit you are still listening.

But what is it when the same people call their detractors 'apologists', 'unintelligent', 'unimaginative', 'sheep' etc?

Also, what is it when the same people seem unable to have reasoned debate without falling back on crying foul or name calling?

And when they make the same point over and over again, taking every opportunity to squash reasonable discussion under the heel of pointless repetition while adding no further value to the debate.

People cannot have it both ways.

Well I certainly don't recall using any of those names that you mention against anyone, in fact I happen to think that some of the comments I've seen on Facebook can be quite nasty in the way they personally attack some of the current presenters, i certainly wouldn't resort to that. My gripe is with the company as a whole (their style of radio), but I won't go into that again it is a bit pointless. However, everyone is still entitled to express their opinions AS LONG AS they're not being offensive.

Did anyone else hear Smooth trying to be funny today by playing Paul Simon Homeward Bound followed by Carly Simon You're So Vain?

Trying to be funny? I don't get it? I'm sure the songs were just chosen by a computer. I was listening to Carlos on the Manchester station and he didn't make any reference other than a comment about Homeward Bound being written at Widnes station.

I love the idea of songs being chosen by a computer but it doesn't happen. I've never worked for a station yet that would leave a computer to choose the music.

Computers assist people in choosing the songs but a person puts the songs into the computer and decides which ones are active and which rules apply. A person also checks the log and makes changes to make sure it sounds good and the right songs are there. The computer just makes suggestions based on what a person has told it to do.

Maybe the playout system has revolted. They might need Simon Bates back.

Is there no Michael Buble either? If not its a disaster a terrible technical problem you must contact Richard Park at once.

Wouldn't that be rather pointless? I thought we'd long ago established that he doesn't listen to anyone.

Indeed - Parky should abandon his clearly disastrous and unsuccessful practices and listen to the experts in here with their contrastingly glittering careers!

Sounds good to me lets put the enjoyment back in radio listening.
