Sensational figures for Smooth NW - a big jump to 858,000, the highest ever.

Nice to have Graham Dene back on Smooth radio. Obviously it's nice for others across the UK to get used to him.

Or go back to bed. Infact, SOTS never has been such a viable alternative!

A pretty good start for Graham Dene and I reckon you're right. He will grow into it with ease.

Bates doing the Golden Hour from 78 on Gold now but I wonder how many of these great records he'll get to play on Smooth. Don't Fear The Reaper and Hit Me With Your Rhythymn Stick have just been on - not records you would expect to hear on Smooth but the sort of tracks that a potential serious rival to radio 2 should be playing. Maybe when the Golden Hour from 78 is on Smooth he'll stick these two on anyway!

I'm a big BOC/Dury fan but they're not to everyone's taste! |

They'll probably go for the soul/Motown end of the playlist. The two tracks Nick mentions would be more at home on sister station Rock Radio.

Smooth could do it like Radio 2 do : For example you might hear things like : The Beatles, followed by Coldplay, then bon jovi - and the jacksons. Could Smooth do this, are they able to follow in the foot steps of Radio 2? As Steve Wright has said on a number of occassions - "you wouldn't hear this played, followed by this one anywhere else". Go on Smooth do it.

As a 'melodic', 'easy listening' station I don't think they'd emulate the Radio 2 playlist. Last week Janice Long on R2 played Orbital and Kraftwerk which would probably result in a format breach for Smooth!
When Smooth FM became Smooth Radio in 2007 the playlist did include some lively rock like Summer of 69 and David Bowie's Rebel Rebel which, in my view, really didn't suit the format and ruined the station. The current playlist sounds about right for an easy listening station (save for some dodgy disco tracks) it seems to be working brilliantly outside London! The North West station in particular is performing especially well.. |

Help for heroes day what I heard sounded good. Eammon Holmes was good. I think Carlos was live from London with his Drivetime show. Andy Peebles has joined BBFBs. It does tend to sound like Smooth and Radio 2 do share certain things.

Graham Dene seems to have been removed from the Smooth website.

I thought Dene would be too out of place compared to Tony Blackburn. Patman is the right choice for the slot. I hope he makes the most of out the links like Tony did, which made up for the dire playlist.

However I think GMG will reward Lynn with first choice London cover for any of the shows from there. |

I'd put Lynn on Sunday 2-5 as Terry Underhill already presents the overnight already on that day.
However I think GMG will reward Lynn with first choice London cover for any of the shows from there. The weekend brekkie show would be the reward. |

Lynn's clearly a solid jock, however I wouldn't personally find her appointment to listen radio in the same way Bates or Sharp are.
Covering breakfast or Mark Goodier isn't a bad gig. |

It seems a bit of a waste. Lynn is well known nationally through her stints on Radio I and 2 and Smooth. It would be a shame to see her, all but, vanish on the Sunday 2-5 with the occasional cover for the London based shows.
The weekend brekkie show would be the reward. It'll be interesting to see how Pat Sharp goes on Smooth. I would've thought he'd be more suited to Real Radio, but it'll be an improvement on Graham Dene. I stopped listening on Sunday mornings when Tony Blackburn left. |

Graham obviously wasn't cheesey enough to replace Tony so they've called in the Patman. |

That might have been the problem with Graham, not well known enough outside London as over the years he has been mainly been on London stations with the exception of a short time nationally on Virgin.
Graham obviously wasn't cheesey enough to replace Tony so they've called in the Patman. Also remember FM Lover, Smooth in London got it's highest Rajar of the week not from Dene, but from Blackburn at the weekend. Clearly the cheese style works better in that day part than Mr Solid. |
