When are Smooth leaving Digital One?
Probably when Global launch their Heart-related replacement.

That's such a shame Dave is a great presenter.

Has't Dave been at the station since it was Jazz FM?
Probably when Global launch their Heart-related replacement.
No one from Global has yet said it will be Heart related?
http://radiotoday.co.uk/2014/02/smoo...rom-digital-1/
a new station, with an unconfirmed name, playing music from the 70s, 80s and early 90s with particular appeal to audiences aged 35-54.
Could be a revamped Arrow rock station? or even Chill, but unlikley!
Maybe they are waiting for the Derby mux as the coverage area on Smooth DAB will be a lot less on local muxes than D1?

OK, but it probably will be a brand extension, much in the Capital Xtra mould.

I listen to Smooth via a former 'Gold' channel, so get the national feed but with local ads and local (and decent!) travel news.

I've noticed this week though that the jocks are often talking about "here in London" and mentioning delays on the tube and highlighting problems on the M25 or North Circular. Today Anthony teased the travel with "let's find out whats happening on the A2" but of course the travel I heard didn't mention it. Yesterday, Andrew Castle promoted the Smooth London twitter handle.

Are they moving away from presenting it on a national basis, and perhaps going back to it being a London/South East service which happens to be available nationally.

The LBC thread highlights something maybe happening there too - a move back to LBC being presented more as a London station which happens to be available nationally.

You only hear that on the regional AM stations. if you were listening on the regional FM services you wouldn't have heard any of those London references

On Am services which of course ate on DAB. I noticed that yesterday Anthony Davis going on about the M25 etc then of course the travel came on and it was about Norfolk so sounded stupid lol. Meanwhile I'm trying to like Paul phear but cant enjoy him. His voice suits nightime radio. He drives me to sleep. Im sure he was good at Magic but I cant get into him at Smooth. Poor move from global I want to stay awake during the day not sleep. Yes I know its a relaxing mix of music but please at least make the dj sound like he is interested.

Agreed, Magic used to have a great lineup with Paul Phear and Angie Greaves. Two people who's voiced are just great to hear on the radio.

Slightly anoracky but Paul actually sounds even better on Smooth, guess its the mic or the processing thats suited very well to his voice.

I have to say Martin Collins in doing a great job replacing Paul at Magic. I've no idea if he is permanent or not as he is still listed as weekend breakfast presenter, but he is ideal for the 2-5 slot on weekdays.

Very true. Paul is probably there to see if he can pull some Magic listeners over. Martin is one of the strongest Radio voices to hold off the listeners moving to Smooth.

Good question it must cost a small fortune broadcasting smooth London across the UK on D1 ?. I would have thought they would have replaced it months ago?.

We have Smooth uk and the northwest version ...other than adverts and the likes of Anthony Davis and co announcing its identical as they play the same tracks at the same time
Pointless ...
Wish they'd get their fingers out and stick the new station on
Still at least we still have Gold which is more than most even if it's only on am and tinterweb 😄

Have to say I had a listen to magic London via radio player and wow I was impressed. Old and new songs lively tracks also. Compared to the new global smooth its a lot better and not so depressing well done magic.

Magic now is nothing like Magic 2 or 3 years ago. I agree with you that the mix now is much more lively, wider song selection, more talking from the DJs. It needs to be careful though that it doesnt go too far that way or it will lose listeners to Smooth as (like it or not) the more a DJ talks the more he alienates listeners. THere are times recently I've turned off Foxy on Magic because of his incessant wittering.

Agreed, the problem Magic have is they want to target the illusive female audience Heart have. The problem is Heart have this format nailed and while Bauer have been trying to change Magic they are loosing listeners.

If there not careful Heart is going to have the ABC 1 Female audience and Smooth is going to have there old audience squeezing magics share down and down. RP must be rubbing his hands with delight as theres not a chance they will be able to take down Heart while at the same time there old audience who don't like the new magic will be moving to Smooth, as far as he is concerned its win win.

The marketing power of Global is immense, no one can deny that no matter what you think of there brands. They nail there audience with marketing and are very very good at what they do.

If you say so. I think the British public just accept boring bland dull radio these days.

In the Midlands we get two versions west midlands & London seems a total waste of time putting out a London feed on D1 across the UK ?. I don't, need to known the tragic report for London underground ? .They would be better putting Gold on D1 ?.

Yes its complete nonsense to continue to have Smooth on D1 when Gold is mainly internet only. Its been 3 months now and I would much rather listen to Gold.
I don't know why Global are bothering with the proposed new station they might just as well added 90's onto Gold after all they play the greatest hits of all time so what's the problem?
