The recent figures, especially in London and the North West, show that people are enjoying the songs played on Smooth. Whether any issues with repetition or any line-up changes will alter that in time remains to be seen. However for now, Global have done exactly what the wanted to do - refocus the station and ensure that whenever you tune in, you immediately know what Smooth stands for.
There's no denying that the GMG version of the station was successful (London aside) - hitting 900,000 listeners in the North West and becoming market leader in the North East in particular - but Global's goal is different. Sure, it's populist music without the depth or quirkiness of some of the Salford-based programming, but it's also working, very well.
If you want to see what Smooth's national goal is, look at Magic London's graphs. As for your criticisms of a very successful brand, maybe it's you who needs to have a look at your arguments in the mirror...”

I take your point but to me the overall sound is not balanced you talk about flow and texture but a lot if the time it doesn't flow. Your sweepers state "relaxing music mix" but it isn't doing what it says on the label when you suddenly break into tracks like Man In The Mirror after loads of sleepy tracks. It needs a better balance of slow and faster tracks not just 2 uptempo and a sudden drop to dreary slow stuff
