I can confirm Lynn will be presenting the smooth weekend mid mornings from the New Year. I wonder when Lynn stops covering breakfast, as she's down to cover Early Breakfast on Radio 2 from the 20th December for 2 weeks over the festive period?

Nothing to say anything on his Facebook page. It's a shame Graham if true has left. I guess Mr Sharp will play all " The UK hits " Jingle?

Nice guy, but wrong station. Better off on Magic 105.4 which suits his delivery.

Also remember FM Lover, Smooth in London got it's highest Rajar of the week not from Dene, but from Blackburn at the weekend. Clearly the cheese style works better in that day part than Mr Solid.
As long as Smooth let Pat be himself then he'll be a great addition.
Tony was brilliant on Smooth and as Martin says, the best RAJAR results of the week.

Nice to hear a nice quite voice at breakfast with Pat Sharp. Lynn Parsons is and I'm sure Simon Bates will. This could start moving people away from Radio 2. I 'm not being funny or anything R2 could soon be having a serious listener problem.

I'm just wondering if Graham will be back. I do see Lynn Parsons is covering Radio 2 Early breakfast from 20 December for a few weeks. So this maybe a little teaser to get the listeners used to Pat whilst he covers weekday breakfast until Simon Bates joins, then Pat gets a weekend show?

With Radio 2 commitments, I guess Lynn broadcasts from London, as does I guess Mark Goodier.
I have to say that I think it is good that a national commercial operator can still have two main studios. Yet Heart seemed to get rid of anything or anyone outside of London when they planned networking. But Smooth appears to be using Manchester and London. In a way similar to the BBC nationals seem to have (or have had) more than one centre.

GMG only maintains London studios because it knows that experienced, big(ish) names won't travel to Manchester - especially if it's for a couple of shows a week. I actually think it's good that they've chosen Manchester as their main HQ. Obviously, it's the "spiritual" home of The Guardian, but it also demonstrates that you can run a national station without it being London-centric.

In fact, with a format like Smooth, it doesn't have to be "anything" centric. Taking this to a logical conclusion, you could forsee overseas franschising opportunities. maybe not quite as universal as Classic FM, maybe - but worth thinking about.

Agree, still not sure about Five Live, the political stuff etc. But still think it is good to move some BBC out of London.

The political stuff isn't moving out of London. Five Live is - but even now a good proportion of political interviews are done via an ISDN line at Millbank. Exactly the same will apply when the station is in Salford.

Smooth may well be doing some good stuff hiring these big names, but maybe people should look at what direction they are going with their presenters. They kept two of the orignal team, now they have gone. Look what happened with Martin Collins.

So that means it's her last week on Breakfast next week, wonder who's covering over Christmas ? Pat Sharp maybe ??

Lynn on weekend breakfast? Will be interesting to see those Rajar figures in the London area at least after she beds down.

Good to see a solid line up from breakfast to afternoons at least. Not too sure on Carlos though who's starting to stick out like a sore thumb with the new additions.

Funny that, because with Simon Bates, Mark Goodier, David Jensen and Andy Peebles there from January, Carlos' show looks to be the only bright spot in the day.

How to spoil a good station - hire a load of ex-Radio 1 jocks and let the only good one, Tony Blackburn, leave.

They didn't let him leave - the BBC banned him from working on Smooth as well as POTP.

This is despite the fact that Blackburn has been doing two live shows on a Sunday (and a further pre-recorded one) for different stations for many months now.

Yeah I know, but I would've preferred to see Blackburn still there than any of the ex-Radio 1 jocks in the line up from January.

Interesting if they will bring in anymore female presenters? Maybe Gary Davis could join the line-up? Pete Mitchell and Mark Lamar presenting some specialist shows.

Just needs either Bruno Brookes or Mike Read on drive to complete the daytime line up.

It's fine getting all these ex Radio 1 presenters on, but the music is key to it's success and it's still all over the place.

I know. I think the way they used him, then dropped him after a few weeks is disgusting. I think pastures new will be coming soon.
