I know. I think the way they used him, then dropped him after a few weeks is disgusting. I think pastures new will be coming soon.
I think Graham has to accept he has had his chances over the last 30 years and it has not happened.

A bit like Dave Lincoln and a host of others. Radio has moved on and presenters who have been presenters for 30 years plus have little to talk about other than riding the music or reading the papers.

If I want to hear music I do not listen to the radio.

If I want to hear informed music and radio or entertainment it's Mark Lamarr or Steve Wright etc.

I still think Graham would be perfect for Magic 105.4, but that station moved with the times and brought in Neil Fox and the rest is history. However, I'd be happy to see him back in some capacity.

I know he has some affection from certain DS posters, but I think his main problems were two things, his delivery didn't suit the brand and he's not the attraction in the same way Bates or Blackburn are.

I think Graham has to realise that he's only really known in London and therefore only really going to get employed on a London based station.

Smooth are now a national brand and therefore seem to want to fill their schedules with nationally known presenters. I'd imagine Carlos is looking over his shoulder.

Or to put it another way...
No personality!!!

He has had loads of chances just like Dave Lincoln.

In the case of the latter his show was built around people choosing their favourite records and showbiz/newspaper gossip.

The days of bland deejays have gone and Graham is/was a bland deejay.

I've listened to Graham on and off over the years and he's always come across as a really nice bloke.

I'm sure he wouldn't thank me for this, but I could see him doing a light hearted LBC style phone-in show. He has a pleasant manor with callers.

So what does Carlos do to keep his gig? Rely on the West Midlands faithful? Or ramp up the Mike Smash act before GMG acquire yet another ex Radio 1 presenter from the 1980s?

(Gary Davies please!)

It's fine getting all these ex Radio 1 presenters on, but the music is key to it's success and it's still all over the place.
I find the music quite right, though tend to hear it more in the morning, Lynn Parsons, some of Mark Goodier (swap between him and Ken Bruce).

The play list has a lot of motown type music, with new stuff and some oldies not from Motown. It is very like Radio 2 IMO with maybe not enough rock music for my liking, but hey that I guess makes it an alternative to Radio 2.

Graham and Dave must have really upset you when you all worked together.

So, why all the other djs on the main daytime line-up are ex radio 1, then there's Carlos!! He is not well known at all here in the North-East of England, and I doubt anyone will have ever really heard of him in areas away from London or the Midlands?

Carlos has worked on London stations in the past as Carl Emms apparently, but I haven't heard of him until he worked on Smooth.

Just to say Pat Sharp is talking like he's a permanent figure on weekend breakfast...surprisingly good show...and the right replacement for Tony Blackburn...

I think Smooth will sooner or later replace Carlos with an ex Radio 1 DJ whether it be Lynn Parsons, Gary King, Gary Davies or the like...

Me neither.

Guess he is like Graham Dene, we know him in and around London as he's been on Capital, Capital Gold & Magic for years but outside London listeners don't know him.

In contrast although Pat Sharp has only really been a London presenter, and more recently in Cambridge, he is a well known personality.

Smooth being a national brand these days needs nationally known presenters or people won't listen. For example Carlos at Drive vs Simon Mayo on Radio 2- I know who I'd listen to.

To get people away from Radio 2, which is waht Smooth want to do is going to take a lot more than Dave Lincoln in the afternoon up against Steve Wright which is what they realised by signing David Jensen.

If Smooth want to be serious competition to Radio 2 then they need big names. Bates, Goodier & Jensen are the right people for their audience but I still prefer Radio 2 by a country mile.

Carlos did a little for Magic London a few years ago. Look what happened to Martin Collins. I think the station should employ a few female presenters. Zoe Ball anyone?

Listening to the music Smooth play they seem to have poached Radio 2 playlist.

I think Richard Allinson would be good on Drivetime, but for some reason I think he would stay at Radio 2.

He would be very good on Smooth but he seems to be happy with his lot. Maybe he's been promised cover work on Early Breakfast when Vanessa is away of covering for Jeremy Vine?

Personally I think David Jensen will end up on Smooth Drivetime before too long.

Really enjoyed listening to Pat this morning, i think he will do well on Smooth.

Personally i wish they would do something about the 8-Midnight slot....6 nights a week of Andy Peebles in the sametime slot can be a little frustrating at the times.

I recall it being claimed that Ken Bruce was wanting to go back to Scotland. Maybe a slot on Smooth Scotland, and say one of Andy's slots at the weekend?

Im hearing here on other threads that global might buy out GMG and that could be why bates and jenson have joined.God i really hope that dont happen as i love smooth and im liking the lineup they have for 2011 except carlos(no offence again mate). If global turned smooth into a gold station that would be dire and im sure the playlist would become repetitiveStill i would love to hear Bruno brooks or gary davis wonder what they are up to these days.Maybe DLT but he is happy at magic.

Of course, maybe Planet Rock will be Graham's next gig if David Jensen leaves Sunday mornings?

In contrast although Pat Sharp has only really been a London presenter, and more recently in Cambridge, he is a well known personality.
Pat's more well known outside London as a cult childrens tv icon for presenting Funhouse. There's also the 'hits' with Mick Brown which raised money for HALC, but got national airplay.

Carlos uses his "Carlos of Smooth Radio" Facebook page to communicate with listeners and to keep them updated with his Wife Claire's pregnancy amongst other things , he answers some posts but not all.

I think it's widely known I'm not a fan of Carlos but in the last few weeks I've found out via twitter the reason why Nick Piercey didn't move to Manchester which I'd wanted more than Carlos is that he'd bought a second home in Hampshire that he used at weekends (Now living there full time) in 2009 and he didn't want to sell to go to Manchester. Now he's doing cover shifts on BBC Oxford and has a Regular Saturday afternoon slot on Wave 105fm so he's doing fine and Tammy Gooding has her business in Birmingham so she wouldn't move away so Carlos could make the move to Manchester and also be near his elderly mother who lives in Stafford and also Claire's family and also so that Claire could keep her newsreading job at BRMB back in Birmingham although she hasn't been heard a lot lately on air as she has been off work due to chronic pregnancy sickness.
