It's the irony of this post that makes me laugh!

Smooth is a "mood" station - the type that you dip in and out off to chill out too. If they started playing 'Life in the Fast Lane' or 'Helter Skelter', the "mood" would be lost.”

The"mood" is fine for evening and overnight but its drab for during the day. Life in the fast lane and Helter-skelter or I want to hold your hand and Please Please Me would be superb daytime listening.

Yes, they would be superb daytime listening, but not on Smooth! If you want to hear Life in the Fast Lane or Helter Skelter during the daytime, try Planet Rock!

In the very early days of the GMG-Smooth, they regularly played 60s "beat" music - Hollies, Searchers, etc and it sounded totally out of place.

Just looking at the playlist for yesterday - between 10am and 4pm the following were played:

Tavares - More Than A Woman
M People - Movin' on Up
Harold Melvin - Don't Leave me this Way
Beach Boys - Good Vibrations
Michael McDonald - Sweet Freedom
Stevie Wonder - Isn't She Lovely
Real Thing - Can't Get By Without You
Culture Club - Karma Chameleon
UB40 - Red Red Wine
Four Seasons - December '63
Aretha Franklin/ George Michael - Knew You Were Waiting for Me
Yvonne Elliman - If I Can't Have You

You may disagree, but I would say that most of the above are relatively upbeat songs, that are in keeping with the style of the station.

All good songs but Smooth is an easy listening station so I'm not sure the former two would fit. Please Please Me I think would work on Smooth in daytime - possibly I Want To Hold Your Hand if scheduled in the right place.

Blimey! It looks more like a track listing for a free CD inside a Sunday newspaper!

Typically the same knackered out songs that would make me instantly turn over. I'd also say 'Karma Chameleon' and 'Movin' On Up' aren't exactly 'relaxing', are they?

I'm in shock that someone at Global HQ knows the Real Thing recorded more than ONE song!!

I thought you liked Magic or Radio Norfolk now? Why are you still listening to Smooth since you clearly hate it?

I hate Holby CIty but I don't force myself to watch it then go online and complain about how terrible it is.

I think secretly you're a fan of Smooth but are just keeping up the pretence

You might want to check facts before trying to look clever. None of those songs are repeated "two or three times a day".

They might seem "knackered out" to you but for the majority of people they aren't. How else do you explain the increased listenership?

Only ONE of those songs that I listed were played more than once on Friday - 'I Knew You Were Waiting For Me' was played at 3:53am and 3:12pm (according to their website).

Perhaps you need to ask yourself then WHY songs on Smooth Radio appear so repetitive? The Yvonne Elliman track is certainly heavily rotated or appears to be.

I await your next smart-arsed remark. If you care about Global as much you appear to, you need to drop the attitude and arrogance. Try to educate rather than simply defend.

I really don't know, but I'm sure you'll tell me in such an eloquent way.

No attitude or arrogance here fella just disputing your made up comment. As for educating look back at my previous posts.

I had a quick flick around the dial yesterday on the way to work around 8.30 and heard Back To Life by Soul II Soul on Smooth which I thought was quite upbeat for them, I was expecting a news update at 8.30 but it was followed by a sweeper followed by Imagine by John Lennon followed by Holding Back The Years by Simply Red.

Honestly, if I'd still been in bed I would have easily dropped back off to sleep.

Mind you, was listening to Gary King earlier but that's more to do with Gary than the music.

I have say I disagree..

Smooth Extra is a brilliant station for people like me who work in a large warehouse.

Excellent music. No Z List ex tv celebs pretending they 'know' how to be on the radio..

Just non stop music, ads and news..it's a perfect jukebox to belt out the tunes to!

Haha, You to me are everything is a very upbeat song

I don't really consider Simply Red Money's too tight to mention to be relaxing, but Smooth still play it

It's laughable that you think anyone at Global or any of the other radio groups could care less what's written in these forums.

Ashley Tabor's got 20 million listeners and some pretty big multi-national advertisers to take care of. I doubt he loses any sleep over the rubbish spouted on Digitalspy!

Now there really is arrogance for you. On the one hand we're told that every record played is researched and tested (allegedly) to the nth degree, and the next we're told it's laughable that anyone at Global could care less what anybody writes about them.

A breathtaking lack of consistency of argument that any half awake member of a school debating society could drive a bus through.

Sorry no I am not a secret fan I occasionally listen as I do to many other stations. You are almost correct in that I mainly listen to Magic, Norwich 99.9, Decades Radio and Radio 2 to ensure I get what Global would term "More Music Variety".

This doesn't make sense. If someone said "every record is tested" but later said "no records are tested" then that would be a "breathtaking lack of consistency". I don't see how the example you've quoted is though.

In any case, no one at Global is likely to give a damn about what's written here by a tiny minority of people. The Global approach to Smooth has proved to be very successful despite doomsday predictions here, and I think that's what really rattles people on this forum.

Actually, I totally get where Amara's coming from, the music testing methods that Smooth uses serves its purpose, however for me it's a very narrow/limiting way of viewing music, then again I'm not looking at it from a 'business' point of view. I love listening to programmes where there is free rein on the music played.

Well some clearly care very much what the 'small minority' on here think, so much so that it seems to be a full time job for some of you, pouncing on and trying to stifle everyone and anyone who criticises/disapproves. The comments might be 'rubbish' to you but they're people's subjective views, it's called freedom of speech.
