New Riders Of The Purple Sage - On My Way Back Home absolute classic track used to be played on Caroline in the 70's & 80's ideal for Smooth but of course Global will never put it on the playlist.

If I said it during a discussion about music research then yes. You'll note that Heart for example for a long time played 'Summer of 69' when it barely charted higher than that number - well thats because people liked it according to the research.

It's probable that 'Ten to eight' hasn't been tested, and for you thats a good thing. If the global team do discover it to be a listener hit, you'll get it dozens of times a week. Be careful what you wish for

I doubt On My Way Back Home has been tested but then that's part of the problem with the testing phenomenon.

That depends what you think stations like Smooth are for. There are hundreds of songs further up the food chain than the three mentioned above when it comes to familiarity and indeed popularity. They don't need to go looking for songs most of their listeners have never heard of.

Does anyone know where Smooth's local travel is done from? Just heard their Sussex bulletin on AM and without fail every place name used was pronounced wrong

I have noticed Smooth have made some changes to their weekend schedule with axing of Smooth Soul at 18.00 which has been replaced with The Great British Songbook now hosted by Paul Phear on Saturdays and The Great American Song Book on Sundays with Smooth Love Songs now on at 22.00 at the weekend. Chris Skinner now hosts Sunday afternoon regional show on Smooth London which also goes out on the AM frequencies in South of England and Wales.

Smooth must have requested a format change as they were required to have 12 hours of specialist programming which consisted of Smooth Soul (4 hours a week) and The Great British Songbook (4 hours a week) and The Great American Songbook (4 hours a week).

Also Smooth London and Smooth North West (Ex Jazz FM stations) where required to play a certain amount of soul music and soul influenced by Jazz and by having these weekly Soul Shows on a Saturday and Sunday ticked a box as well as having Soul music sprinkled in the playlist for other shows ticks a box Global meeting the requirements for the London and North West licences. So Ofcom must have a relaxed the requirements of playing soul music.

So Smooth Soul is completely gone? Also, thoughts on day 1 of the top 500

Not sure about Smooth AMers but Gold Derbyshire travel is provided externally and is read by the same people I hear in the Midlands on BBC local radio bulletins as well.

Which apologists should reply - ones from Global or the external travel news provider?
