I disagree they sounded fine in the GMG days I don't see why they wouldn't now. Magic has sung jingles and its pretty similar.

Smooth is mellower under Global, so no, sung jingles wouldn't work.

You can get mellow sung jingles so why not? Mellow does not need to be bland.

It's a matter of opinion. It's refreshing to have a station that doesn't use them.

Voice tracked drive show - hmmmm... I wonder if here in Wales we will ever get our own breakfast?

Hearing London this and London that isn't really a good thing

Out of interest, what kind of London references do you notice on Andrew Castle's breakfast show?

I'm genuinely curious because, whenever I've listened (in London), my perception has been that there's absolutely nothing local apart from the travel inserts because they treat breakfast and drivetime as nationally networked shows!

Have heard Smooth Extra in two seaside cafes recently maybe that's what its aimed at?

Smooth Extra is available for areas which do not have the proper Smooth Radio station on local FM/MW/DAB. They can't make the main Smooth station national because some of the local stations are owned by Communicorp rather than Global.

As for why they've added it to Sky, that's anyone's guess but they're paying for it so they can do whatever they like.

Both of those radio stations are probably more than welcome to go on Sky if they're going to pay for it like everyone else does. I shouldn't think Sky care too much what's on there as long as they're getting paid & everything is within the rules.

I imagine it is to monetise having that Sky slot - Smooth Extra is in RAJAR (from the next set of figures released according to Global's last RAJAR release) and The Arrow isn't.

.”

So why do we have Smooth & Smooth Extra on DAB & Smooth on AM? Presumably that means we have the "proper Smooth" in Norfolk complete with local travel if that's how it can be described in its rushed state. Surely with what you are saying above we should only have Smooth there is no need for the Xtra which is merely a duplicate for the majority of the day playing exactly the same music?

Smooth Extra is broadcast on Digital One which provides national coverage, It isn't possible to block it in certain areas which already have a Smooth station.

Why can't it be blocked? Surely its just a matter of whether a feed is fed into the multiplex. Gold is available on DAB again here but its not on DAB nationwide. Magic is on D1 again but it was only recently added here.

Because it's on Digital 1 which is national & its intended use is in areas which don't have access to the local variation of Smooth. The only way around it would be to put Smooth Extra on all of the remaining local muxes which do not contain Smooth Radio, but then in that case they would probably just have Smooth Radio.

The best thing to do would be write to Global if you're that concerned however it's easier to just not tune to that station. I can receive Smooth London, Smooth 4 Counties & Smooth Extra, it's just the way it is.
