From January 2017 Tina Hobley will be presenting smooth drive home in London. Anthony Davis has left and moving to US with his family.

Good luck to AntHony in the USA.

When he was at LBC he did a week long cruise to New York. I like to think that's the way he's relocating his family.

Listened in last night at 11pm and, guess what, no news. This is despite the following being stated in their public file:
Smooth Radio broadcasts news bulletins on the hour 24 hours a day. Between 6am and 7pm Mon-Fri and 6am- 12noon Saturday and Sunday these bulletins contain a mix of local, national and world stories, along with appropriate local and national sport, weather and entertainment news.
National bulletins are broadcast at other times of the day.
So it's back to Gold for me.
That's it i'm going to report to Ofcom they are supposed to carry 24 hour news like there sister station heart does, it's in their licence agreement, but as Global always do, they like to break the rules.
Smooth does not have a requirement in their licence agreement to carry 24 hour news like some of the Heart stations do.

http://www.ofcom.org.uk/static/radio...s/al000165.doc

However I believe there is a requirement that the Public File should be correct.

From the little I've heard outside of daytime Smooth now seems doing news at programme junctions/presenter changeovers rather than hourly.

I remember Capital and BRMB doing something similar in the mid 1990s (with additional bulletins half way through longer shows).

Yes, Smooth hasn't been running 24 hour news for about 6 months now. Outside of daytime I think there are bulletins on weekdays at 7pm, 10pm, 1am, 4am and 5am

They've just got Martin Collins on board, a true radio professional with 30+ years experience at top stations yet they give one of their biggest daily shows to a former Holby actress

Seems strange to me, Gold does news 24 Hours and Smooth was taking the exact same thing so although it's not in their license, it probably wasn't for cost saving reasons?

Martin was in that slot when GMG owned Smooth of course. Maybe it's a case of "no going back" for either party.

He's also quite dated and cheesy with the same old cliches "hope you're well and happy" etc

Thankfully SMOOTH (Cardiff/South Wales) has it's own drivetime 3pm to 7pm with Jason Harrold (ex Red Dragon , Real Radio , Heart (Wales) etc). So no Tina for this area! Unless that changes in the New Year!

Why would the poster only listen to Smooth that time of night if there was news On Smooth every hour? It is only very brief news at about a minute long each hour!! And probably pre-recorded at that to be on several Global stations at once?

Does anyone know how they programme news for the Global stations at night as I used to hear the exact same news go out on Smooth and Heart albeit it at slightly different times than each other!

Yes that's what I was wondering. Which is why I thought it was weird that they have stopped doing them on the hour on Smooth or indeed any station since they have the facilities for it.

Was listening to Tina on Sunday on AM in Norfolk by chance. When she was talking I could hardly hear anything she said it was like she was whispering but I suppose not many use AM anymore.

I actually heard her do one link on FM, and she was speaking almost in a whisper- they must tell her to speak very quiet for a Sunday- I remember when Kate Garraway started she sounded like she was sleepy she was speaking that quietly!

Regarding news on Smooth, there is a 60 second off-peak National bulletin recorded by "Global's Newsroom" which goes out on Smooth, Gold and Heart.

These were introduced following the takeover of the former Real Radio stations whose regulations required a higher news requirement than the traditional Heart stations. Hence the introduction of hourly off-peak bulletins on Heart.

This is usually recorded by the LBC newsreader who reads live bulletins on the hour and half-hour on LBC through the night.

These bulletins typically run from 7 pm to 5 am on weekdays and from 12 noon to 5 am at weekends.

That's correct Heart still do 24 hour news.

Yes they have Jason Harrold.
I notice Jason Harrold comes out of the news with...This is Smooth...broadcasting to South Wales & Cheshire. Wonder why they don't have separate 'sweepers' for each location.

South Wales and Cheshire? They forgot that NE.Wales exists

Has he a family these days? He was unattached and lived alone with his cat when I used to listen to him on LBC a few years back.

I think it's a standard press release term for being 'let go'

The FM stations have a lot of local IDs, even in network hours, and split links too

Martin Collins did a separate link for London only on Tuesday. Very rare to hear that.

3pm to 7pm....unsure why it's that time......as all (or most) other Smooth Drive are 4pm to 7pm. I think before Smooth took over GOLD....Gold had a local opt out at this time & it seems like they have kept to those times.
