Looks like they are telling Dave Lincoln his career prospects at the station do not look good.

I listened to Derek Webster this week, once on the nightshift and this afternoon, and he mostly says that was, this is links and reads a few texts out, that's it - find that a bit bland - it's not personality radio like the rest of the smooth people do

Interesting to see who covers for Simon Bates who hasn't had a break yet. Possibly Pat Sharp with David Prever covering the weekend on either side.

Also Carlos will surely be taking time off / paternity leave in the next week or two as his wife Claire is due to give birth to their 1st child on the 26th Apr.

There's a few shows like that on Smooth, mainly weekend/overnight. It gets very boring, and even Heart has (a bit) more personality. Derek used to be a lot better on Smooth NW Drive which makes me wonder if they're told to stick to reading out texts all night.

Indeed, Smooth Glasgow moved their local non-breakfast hours to 1-4 instead of drive, so you get networked Carlos instead.

Incidentally, I wouldn't be surprised if Dave Lincoln is offered cover for Carlos when he goes on paternity leave.

Is there any word on if and when Smooth will be removed from the local muxes, as it stands at the moment in the North West we have both Jazz FM and Smooth Radio twice, seems like a massive waste of space, when I'm sure other stations would love to be available on the platform.

Smooth won't be removed from the local muxes as these versions still broadcast local news/traffic/ads etc.

Guess eventually when MXR muxes become a regional D2 to cover the UK as Ofcom has suggested, Smooth might be taken off D1 as GMG are part owners of MXR, but will take time, if it ever happens!

Jazz FM might leave MXR by October 6 according to this from tghe-retford ? maybe they are waiting for bandwidth to go stereo on D1 before leaving MXR and the London mux?

Nothing wrong with DW, yes there are probably some slightly more lively presenters, but all round he is a” safe pair of hands”. I’d much rather listen to him or even Stuart Ellis over night IMO, than the usual presenter. I’m not going to start naming names, but he is the one where if you took away his ability to read texts and indulge his own ego with random texts, some of which sound so sycophantic , that they must be made up, from all over the world telling him how great he is, you may as well play non stop music and save that station yet more money.

At least some of the only before regional names that have hung on for dear life have something to say………………..All IMO of course.

Personality radio? Are you having a laugh? There's very little
'personality' from some very well known radio names if you listen very carefully during the day on Smooth. Actually, if you care to listen to Derek Webster overnight he does some very.very.clever personality links which are thoroughly entertaining,a lot better than much of the daytime output. He still reads out texts yes, but they are outshadowed by his genuine wit and warmth.

Lynn might? Pat might cover Drivetime?

If I recall when Simon was at Radio 1 he never really took many holidays, and used to always he there for the short 9-11am before the Summer Roadshows?|
