At first sight this appears to be a tactical move by GMG to prevent Absolute launching their 70s station on Digital 1, as Ofcom are unlikely to allow two 70s stations on the national mux even if capacity can be found.

Absolute 70s on Digital 1 could have a major impact on Smooth's audience (as Smooth's target age range is 45-59).

Absolute may now roll out their 70s station on regional and local muxes.

I'm expecting Smooth 70s to playlist a broader mix of music. Absolute won't play David Essex, Bay City Rollers or Cliff for example.

Smooth 70s would be good and much bet than the abosolute brand but i listen to smooth 60s on the net and enjoy that more so it would be good if they done smooth classics playing 60s and 70s that would be better.

So 70s and national doesn't clash, so people doesn't get comfused heres a new thread for information to continue.

Yes its been good and im loving smooth and im only in my 30s i dont care how much much people complain about them im glad they came to Digital 1 as im loving all of it and listen to nothing else.

Dave Lincoln is covering a few overnights over the festive period. I wonder where he will move to once Graham Torrington takes over Sunday Night Love Songs?

I just hope he does not replace Rick Kirby on weekend overnights!! i seem to remember Ricky saying on his first night that he was only there untill the end of the year?? I hope he can stay on, I like his style!!!

Thats correct he is only there until december but he does sound good and i think he has got a lot of fans too. Guess its wait and see what happens in the new year.

We'd have Ricky back on RRXS(htn) anytime.

If it's Dave Lincoln it's a shame as he's a good broadcaster.

It feels like being back on Radio 1 with Andy Peebles in the Afternoon. Ricky is good during the evenings. David Jensen is good, but he should have been given a weekend show. If Mark Goodier stayed at Radio 2 then Pat would have been good during Mid Mornings and same goes for Simon, Lynn is good at breakfast. I wouldn't want any of them to go, but it shows the station has a a hell of a lot of true Radio talent without having to bring in celebrity TV stars to take over. I think there will be a reshuffle sometime in the new year?

I remember thinking that Mark Goodier was going to replace Ken Bruce on Radio 2, then it was announced he was signing for Smooth - I actually think Mark would be a better fit at Radio 2.

I'm really liking Simon Bates at Breakfast - was such a big fan when he was at Radio 1, and I get to hear more of him on Smooth, so I wouldn't want him to move.

I agree about David Jensen - while I was never his biggest fan, I don't think he's the right choice for that slot.

Will be interesting to see how Smooth progresses in 2012.

Graham starts this sunday with love songs and smooth have their new schedule on their website sadly no Rick Kirby and Dave Lincoln through the night on Sat and Sun.

Thought Dave was in practice to do that over the holidays... Rick was good during the festive covering for Andy and enjoyed him overnights..

I heard Simon this morning saying he received a letter from a listener moaning about his week in afghanistan. She said " How dare you go there and broadcast a show" So it's open up to the listeners what should they do? I know we do things different, hello Chris
