Couldn't agree more. Always said he connects with the listener & has warmth about him.

'Carlos' is a competent enough presenter, but it's that fake mid-Atlantic accent he has I can't bear

Does he actually go home and talk like that?

I doubt it, "Carlos" is his on air persona so I guess it's all part of the act

They hardly touched Gold or Choice FM over the last few years. I mean the websites have seen better days! Marketing wise I could see gold going and smooth staying.

Claire Emms left Central and was working at BRMB before it rebranded to Free Radio.

Having met him - yes that's how he speaks! Maybe a bit more pronounced but what about Wogan or Blackburn? Carlos has career longevity & success to prove it isn't a problem. Too critical.

Ok, Back to the Snooz drive home, with the 'Kid'. I've been listening closely to the show this week Earlier this week he actually sounded animated. Monday. I think it was,and he was was talking about feeding the ducks at the park, and the fact that the ducks ignored him and his grandaughter when they fed them bread,This provoked a series of texts from listeners saying they had had the same experience.(Heyy..Kid gets relateable).Ok, that was Monday.
Here we are on Thurszzzzzzday then.and it's a completely different picture. Anyone who has listened since four o'clock must have wondered if it is voice tracked, He's up to his old tricks again, sounding bored, uninterested.and 'here is that was'.....Sure the 'news headlines' were included, but if you are not actually in the studio at the tome, there are ways round that...
The most notable thing of course .apart from the absence of any type of relateable link is the total lack of any audience reaction such as texts etc.
Apparently. according to one poster on here. Jensen does the show from Manchester Mon-Thu.and does it from the London studio on Friday. Hmmmm.....
You can't help but draw conclusions from this. And quite frankly. the ''HI THERE!!!!! (circa 1972) at the start of the five o'clock hour was so false and exaggerrated it sounded like me when I do an impression of him...
Oh.and no timechecks this evening that I've heard either.I think I'll be listening to the Smooth Drive home with the ;Kid'at the controls on a 'Thursday' very carefully from now on...
Rope. money. old....

Far more closely than the vast majority of listeners then...

Couldn't agree more......his show is awful, dated and un-interesting. Time for the KID to grow up me thinks........

I didn't hear Monday's but he usually sounds tired and bored wed-fri when I tune in. Any enthusiasm sounds forced. The guy on before him ( Carlos?) is far better and sounds much more animated and lively. Perhaps they should swap them round, Kid at 1 and him at 4? He's a much more engaging listen.

That's what Carlos used to do and he was good at it I have no idea why they changed. Maybe the kid could be replaced by Bruno Brookes. Wishfull thinking lol.

Funny you should say that as that's where they were before being swapped. To enjoy Kid how he was there's always those TOTP re-runs from 1977 where he presents every third or fourth week despite only having a Saturday morning show at the time.

Whatever people may think of some presenters as far as much is concerned Smooth is the only station I now listen to and after working in the industry all my career I thought that I would never say that. The music is spot on! why did Magic stations never get it right? Simon Bates for me has lost nothing, but then I am more interested in the music, the presenter should come Second.

Yes I love smooth too esp during the night but no doubt global might change things on that one next year but let's hope the music and playlists stay the same and global leave it as it is.

I'm not being arsey, I'm 46 and remember Kid from days of old, but he's just not into it anymore. Andy Peebles still has fire and passion, why can't Kid? Put Carlos on drive and Kid at 1, with his voicetracked soundalike links. Carlos brings a breath of fresh air! Simon is great at breakfast, showing 70's Radio 1 jocks can do it, and look at Tony Blackburn... the passion never ceases! Come on Kid, have a Red Bull and wake up!

Agree totally Simon Bates has lost nothing, slik, punchy and STILL sounds the same when i worked in a Factory in Ayrshire in the mid 70's when radio 1 was piped through the whole place......good times.

According to Smooth's Public File page on their website - 7-8pm on weeknights IS automated.

Sad times.

What's worse for me is that for a special Seventies hour, they play some of the most predictable, over-played stuff of the day! The blandness is most shown on Smooth 70s.

More 'Don't go breaking my heart' any one?
