Also according to that Saturday & Sunday 6pm til midnight are

I knew Sunday was. I find non live programming sometimes has a slightly different sound quality to it as well of course no listener interaction.

However I am sure when I have heard bits of the Andy Peebles Soul Train programme on a Saturday night it has had listener interaction.

Unsure about the motown show before it.

How many ads for PPI claims does Smooth Radio have???

It's like every ad break, either a Scottish man or a Sean Bean sound-a-like comes on. It's really noticable!!!

When Carlos presented drive and 70s at 7 it was definitely live as he had a guess the year feature and read out text messages and dedications. Why is it now recorded?

Maybe to save money? As if the Kid has to pre-record 5 hours each week, they might pay him less as if he sat in live?

But I'm sure presenters only get paid for each show that they do- not on how many hours they're on air?

im really enjoying Pat Sharp (in for Mark Goodier)
i'm sure there will be a re structure of the daytme line up to come but I do think The Kid should be in a weekly show interating with guests like he did on Gold or Planet Rock.
The 4 hour shift is too boring for him and the listener> How about Mark Goodier returning to the drive after all that was what he successfully did on Radio 1 for many years

This depends on his other commitments. 70's at 7 is back to back music. Carlos just made the show his with interaction.

I'm shocked reading Drivetime is more like a more music drivetime show with less talk. Most of them are in contracts, so we all have to wait and see the Global out come to see what might or might not happen.

In the remaining months of Smooth before (I presume) it turns to Gold, let's have Carlos on Drive. Kid sounding bored and voicetracked, even if he is live, isn't floating my boat.

agree about the kid at drivetime, very dull. would love Lynn Parsons to get a regular weekday slot, she's the best of the lot on Smooth IMO

Get rid of Gold it doesn't stand out for me and I hate AM radio. I prefer FM and DAB. Smooth is a better brand. It would be nice to see either Lynn or Pat doing the afternoons and Carlos on the Smooth Drive Home.

Everyones talking about Real and Smooth. What will happen to Real XS?

More than likely that those two stations in Manchester and Paisley will be sold.

re Carlos, back on the schedule for tomorrow. Has been tweeting recently about having "one of those meetings" which could mean anything. It would be a shame if he went, one of the better presenters there although when i first heard him i wasn't fussed. Happily proved me wrong.

If he had had "one of those meetings" he wouldn't be back.

And he's still on the website, which he wouldn't be if he'd been axed. Global are very hot at eradicating all evidence that a sacked presenter ever existed.

So he's probably on holiday. It is July after all.

Yes, think so. Everyone deserves some time out. And yes i thought he would have been "erased"

Radio Today is reporting that "sports media specialist" Jonny Gould is joining Bates over the Olympics for extended sports bulletins.

http://radiotoday.co.uk/2012/07/jonn...d-joins-simon-
bates-on-smooth/

Jonny was the sports person as well as performing other roles on Talk Radio's breakfast show in its various guises including Bates' six months on the show. I remember them having a good rapport back in 95/96.

I am sure I heard local travel on 102.2 recently, has it now been dropped which could account for the drop in listening? (reposted from the Gold thread)

The local travel is certainly still there on the breakfast show. There was a VERY short period a little while ago (a few days maybe?) where 102.2 carried the national travel but it's definately local again now.
