Special programmes featuring Michael Buble, Dionne Warwick and Katherine Jenkins are being broadcast over the Christmas period by Smooth Radio.

Michael Buble will host three daily shows on the national station on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day whilst Dionne Warwick talks about her life in music and Katherine Jenkins plays some of her favourite tunes on Christmas Eve.

2013 marks 50-years since Dusty Springfield launched her career and in a Boxing Day hour-long documentary those that knew her well, including Tom Jones, Mary Wilson of the Supremes and Marianne Faithfull, celebrate her life. Then “Those We’ve Loved” pays tribute to some of the great artists we’ve lost in 2012 – from Whitney Houston, Andy Williams and Robin Gibb to Donna Summer and The Monkees’ Davy Jones.

Real and Smooth Radio Group Programme Director John Simons said: “Smooth’s millions of listeners are in for a real treat over Christmas as we welcome a host of legendary artists together with some of today’s musical favourites onto the station.. Michael Buble will provide the perfect accompaniment for three consecutive festive evenings on Smooth, providing listeners with a relaxing hour of festive favourites.”

Surely it will be ok if the quality of the pre-records is good enough, which I'm sure it will be, but I would prefer live as well... but who from Smooth would want to work Christmas I wonder if they had to do be asked to..who do you think would say yes?

He spent an hour with Chris Evans on the Radio 2 breakfast show last week, so not just commercial radio.

As already discussed on another thread he is promoting a Christmas album.

Radio jumping on the TV bandwagon and giving shows to artists with albums to promote

Katherine Jenkins has a TV show on Sunday and low and behold a new album out, wouldn't be surprised if she didn't get a show on Magic or Smooth to promote that.

Mark left Smooth. Next stop Radio 2 over the festive period. Maybe more in 2013? The station has erased his show page and profile quickly.

I don't think Global have published what they will do with Smooth, Smooth 70's and Real XS yet? They may leave them alone for a while (or permenently) to concentrate on rebranding Real to Heart?

sorry I couldn't think of anything worse than that scenario. I'm sorry I dont listen to Gol;d because of their lineup, they are just so so bland. I would only listen between midnight and 10.00

Agreed, what gets my "Goat FM" with this forum, are the idiots that post on here, who in most cases have never actually been on the radio and are bitter as a result and run their lives by this "fantasy radio should be this way existence". Much as it talks me out of a gig I say "Long Live Carlos on Drive " at least he has a personality and is relatable, unlike so many who are not mentioning no names. I was driving down the motorway the other day and nearly crashed the car, listening to Carlos as i found his story about the wife and xmas so in touch with real life

It depends what the CC decide what station they're allowed to keep and which ones they must offload, Real xs(meh) has improved lately since they got rid of the former GMG managers and put in people who let the jocks decide what music to play, but I hope it's sold to a company that believes in the station, and hope they get rid of that feckin all full name and branding.

Real XS has improved of late. Saying that, they are now down to a skeleton staff. Moose left the station last week and this week they've got Mike Sweeney, Dewsbury and Miss Rach covering 6am to 7pm in the lack of anyone else to put on air. Dewsbury does the breakfast show with Sweeney until 10am, then continues solo until midday, before Miss Rach does a long haul midday to 7pm show. Although he said he was leaving for family reasons, when Moose did his farewell links he was very candid about how great the shrinking number of people left at the station were, and that he wished them luck and that they'll need it.

I presume so. Wouldn't Daryl be best suited to Real than Smooth?
