And double their costs at a time when no-one's listening? Not likely.
Indeed, the Midnight-6am listenership is 3% of the total audience (as noted by GMG during their application to abolish the jazz content on Smooth).

I think the deal to keep hold of Smooth is far from being "rubber-stamped". Global already hold LBC, Classic FM & Gold so there are some definite issues with that 50+ demographic, particularly if Global launch a national version of LBC in the future. There are far more commercial stations targetting the 25-44 range so Real isn't so much of an issue.

I wonder if Richard Park intends to replicate the success he had with Magic 105.4 with Smooth if he keeps it ? We mustn't assume that if Smooth survives it will remain with the same sound as now. A national equivalent of Magic 1054 could happily coexist and compliment capital, Heart and Gold.

I wonder if they are mirroring Pat to Lunchtimes similar to Nick on Heart, and Moving Carlos to Evening similar to Roberto Heart?

Indeed again I hope not as magic London is horrible and playlists dire. I remember when I could get that on my dab here in Suffolk.I retuned as it bored me with boring love songs and ronan Keating on loop. However magic in the north is fantastic.

I'm 17 and I'm loving Smooth due to the line up and the songs. I hope this stays too.

Whether Smooth remains Smooth or becomes Gold or something else, you can rest assured there'll be changes. You don't buy an underperforming radio group and do nothing.

Whatever happens to Smooth, Richard Park will use it to attack Magic in London from the upper end of its audience and use Heart to attack it from the lower end. Poaching Magic's listeners and ending its days as London's number 1 is his main priority and Smooth will be the vehicle for doing that.

As the architect of Magics current sound and style, Park knows how to attack it too. If I were Bauer, I'd be nervous. There's been very little development since he left and not much sign of it. I think the jingle package is 6-7 years old.

Seems Pat will take over drive from Carlos, who will move to evenings so Andy Peebles will move to weekends?

I would have preferred Pat at 10am and Lyn at 1pm

Shame actually that it is not 7.00 to 10.00 as he could have re-taken ownership of 70s at 7, which is very much his show.

And more importantly broadcast it live rather than the current lacklustre voice tracking of Jensen.

The voice tracking in that show is dreadful, why doesn't Kid record the hour as live? He sounds so falsely upbeat, it stands out a mile.

It's just a shame that the 1pm programme isn't networked. At least here in Central Scotland we had Lynne weekdays and Pat weekends. Now we lose Pat altogether and have a 'local' presenter instead.

Yes, I could listen to the mono national version but I prefer the stereo local one.

Also with regard to the new jingles I have heard some of them posted online by 'creator' Chris Stevens and they sound great. However, for some reason they don't sound so good on air which is a great shame. On air they seem to lack depth and most sound like someone in the bath singing along to an ice-cream van!

Ricky Kirby is covering for Carlos next week and Steve Collins has been over the last few weeks. It was sad to read on Carlos facebook he lost his mother, so this is why he's been away.

Yes that's understandable. Ricky Kirby is good though so a good fill in. Have to say I loved the breakfast show today he is nice and lively and I think better than what Pat Sharp was at this time of day anyway.

I think I heard over Christmas time when Ricky did an overnight show that he works in retail now, so it is good to see him on the radio a lot at the minute.

Is it me or has Smooth started playing more Pop Oldies and less Smooth Easy Listening?

No a good sign!

Well I don't mind so long as the playlists don't narrow too much.

There is quite a bit more talk on Magic now. Foxy often has a guest on breakfast at 8.10 and himself and Verity natter a lot on air. Annie Greaves can't stop talking either. Even Danny P is talking more at night.

Unfortunately even when he is live he is not much more lively. Used to really like him, but he is just on autopilot these days.

A cross between Heart & Gold if you ask me so that's not surprising at all.
