So Global have bought Smooth then?
No change, Smooth is still in a hold separate situation along with Real Radio and XS.

Although Smooth and Real are running as normal it's now Global management in charge who can tweek playlists, jingles and add more networking as long as it's within the published formats.
Looks like the CC is recommending some stations be sold on, but
http://radiotoday.co.uk/2013/02/prov...obal-gmg-deal/
Further engagement will take place between Global Radio, Real and Smooth Ltd and the CC over the next couple of months ahead of a final decision which is expected in April or May.
Historically, provisional findings by the Competition Commission have been significantly different to final decisions.
A spokesperson for Global Radio told RadioToday: “Global Radio & Real & Smooth Ltd (RSL) note that the Competition Commission (CC) has today released its provisional findings into this transaction.
“It is important to note that as provisional findings, these do not represent the CC’s final report, and as such, it would not be appropriate to comment further on these provisional findings.
“RSL will continue to be run separately from Global Radio whilst the CC finalise their review. Global Radio will however continue to represent RSL’s national airtime sales, as it has done since 2006.”
http://radiotoday.co.uk/2013/02/cc-o...-global-radio/
The CC says it would consider any other practicable remedies that Global, or any interested third parties, may propose in order to address the expected SLC and any resulting adverse effects.
These should be submitted in writing, with any practical alternative remedies to be considered, by 5pm on 27th February 2013
It could be that another media company and investment company comes up with another solution not thought about which might be acceptable to Global and the CC?

Personally Simon Bates has the opposite effect on me!

Think it's more likely to be Smooth Radio Scotland's John and Sharon at Breakfast rather than Simon.

Loving the new spoken jingles they are playing too: "Love Life, Love Bamboo, Smooth Radio"!

Quite possibly as I think Smooth Glasgow is on the Edinburgh mux?

Maybe although as it's outside of FM area - it 50/50 could be "Smooth UK" or Smooth Glasgow on Edinburgh DAB.

Although to be honest I just wanted to repeat the Bates line

Paul Hollins covering Emma B this Sunday. He usually covers Heart Sussex. ( Global Radio springs to mind )

I listen to Smooth 70s and don't mind that it's mostly automated. After Radio 2, this is my favourite station.

Don't read too much into it pal. Paul was covering at Smooth back in 2010 as well.

3 more weeks (May22nd) till we (possibly) find out Smooth's, Smooth70's, Real's and XS's future?

Noticed also Paul Hollins is making some appearances too on the Station. I know he's MD at Blue Revolution. He seems to not be on Heart Sussex anymore.

The reason why Paul Hollins is covering all next week because Real & Smooth presenters are at a Bootcamp. http://radiotoday.co.uk/2013/05/kiis...edium=facebook

I doubt that there will be an 80's show on Smooth Radio as there is already an 80's show on sister station Real Radio!

Yes but is there a time slot available for an 80's show on Smooth Radio?

Probably not if Heart has an 80s show, unless Smooth gets sold to new owners so the CC allows Global to keep Real?

Something odd happening at Smooth this afternoon.Emma B scheduled at 3 but seemed to be back to back music until 3.50 when Paul Hollins turned up saying he was 'taking care of things for Emma B' Hope she's OK

Paul has been making "some appearances" for three years. Nothing new.

Heart is an Uptempo station, I think 80's Heart, Wham! Michael Jackson
Smooth a easier listening channel aimed at 50 somethings.

Take a person born in 1960, by 1990 they are 30, today they are 52. Look at the 80's (my sister is more that age) she like Jackson, but liked a lot of 80's that Heart don't seem to use as much. Thought Smooth was after 50 somethings.

How out of place would Tears for Fears. The Style Council, Level 42 be on an 80's Smooth Show ?(just thinking once a week here), some of the tracks by these artists might be upbeat, but others I think would fit in.
