Announcement on Carlos's FB page announcing Wife Claire's second pregnancy. Fantastic news after such a sad start to 2013.

Carlos of Smooth Radio

No Grey Hair! No Wrinkles! But I think the little one has a cheesy grin so already looks a bit like daddy.

It's been a truly fantastic family Friday as Claire, Martha & I had our 12 week scan!

I am so excited to tell you Claire & I are expecting. God willing Martha's little brother or sister will be an early Christmas present, arriving a few weeks before my birthday. Claire's doing fine...she's on top of the ironing, dinners still taste okay & she's just packing my socks & pants for our holiday She's an amazing woman I'm so proud she's my wife & the mother of our children.

After losing my mum in January I thank God we are now blessed with such happiness & we are going to be proud parents once again.

Have a lovely weekend C x

Hi! All
As I have said about when I heard David Kid Jensen on London's 95.8 Capital FM he presented a great show and was live but you can clearly tell that on Smooth he is not live and voice tracked, I am not sure whether the Kid reads these pages but I would say that you know the great radio you can put out when live Kid so come on and present Drive Time and the Double Top 20 live.

I know Simon Bates is live and the interaction on the Golden Hour is brilliant and I am sure that Pat Sharp is live, so it would be nice if David Jensen was live as well. Also I am sure that Carlos was live when he presented Drive Time and did a good show.

While on Carlos I get the impression that at Smooth Carlos plays second fiddle to David Jensen as he was moved from Drive Time to make way for David Jensen and then from Lunch Time to make way for Pat Sharp, but he is a good presenter and I know he worked on Heart FM in Birmingham and I was first lucky to hear him when he sat in for David Jensen on the Kid Jensen's CD Countdown on London's Heart 106.2FM and of course on Heart FM.

I wonder who Paul Hollins is being lined up to replace and as for him and I first heard him on London's Heart 106.2FM and then when I moved to the North East in 2001 he was working at Galaxy, then he went back to Heart although I am not sure where he has also been but he has now turned up at Smooth.

as dire as Kid Jensen sounds Paul Hollins is monotonous, he is just plain dull. no action or enthusiasm in his voice at all. I'm really disappointed in the line up. Lynne is just irritating and their best presenters has to be Carlos and Bates, I would put Carlos on Breakfast from 05.00 -09.00 then Bates from 09.00-13.00 Pat from 13.00 - 17.00 and David Preever from 17.00-21.00 Derek Webster 21.00-01.00 and Lynne prattling on all night til 05.00
just my opinion

I always based The Kid on Gambo who's a specialist music presenters more than a main stream show presenter. I wouldn't say he's bad, but the way it's presented by voice track is very strange.. He must find it easy to come in early and do it all that way.

Paul Hollins will be covering Heart Cambridge soon. I think the Line up is great Simon, Lynn, Pat are all in the right place. Carlos would be more suited back on Drive. David Prever is on BBC Oxford Drivetime, so doubt he'll give that up anytime soon.

Think you are so right about Carlos. He was great at drive time. I enjoy listening to him in the evenings but think he is wasted at that time. Carlos on breakfast followed by Simon Bates would certainly give Radio 2 a bit of competition.

Listeners in London disagree, and that's a really important market for any brand.

If Smooth stays on 102.2 after the Global/RSL shake-up there will have to be changes to the London station, they can't go on as they are with poor audience figures and Smooth Radio London making losses each year.

The reach figures for Smooth London do match or often exceed the figures for Choice, XFM and Gold, Gold has the advantage that people listen longer so in the last rajar hours and share was better.

Don't know if any older Smooth listeners have gone to the Wireless as it is not in Rajar, but like all the London stations figures change, but basically it is doing OK.?

It could be the loss for Smooth London is a hangover from when GMG paid over the value for Jazz FM and has been largely written off and Global can potentally make a profit?
The CC said Global can keep all the London stations so we will still have to wait and see if they decide to make changes to Smooth and Gold.

How about the offer to present your own show on Smooth 70s? Now that is something different. If it works we might see something similar for Smooth Christmas. Wonder what will happen if someone turns out to be particularly good?

Smooth Radio is to air a one hour documentary about the Rolling Stones, presented by the station’s former morning show host Mark Goodier.

“Rolling Home: The Summer of the Stones,” made by Wise Buddah, will air this Sunday and celebrate the Rolling Stones’ return to the UK after their recent tour of North America.

The show will include a selection of their hits and features the whole band talking about everything from Mick Jagger and Keith Richards on the incredible continuing demand to see them live, getting back together for their 50th, and Ronnie Wood on getting married.

Mark Goodier, Founder and Chairman of Wise Buddah and documentary presenter, said, “It’s rare to have such great contributions from all members of the Rolling Stones as producer Paul Sexton has gathered here. It’s a real treat for all music fans.”

Steve Collins, Programme Director for Smooth Radio said, “I can’t wait for our Smooth Radio audience to hear this new and exclusive documentary. The Stones’ careers are unparalleled and make for a fascinating story.

“This programme is a real appointment to listen and I’m sure those tuning in will not be disappointed.”
Radio Today

Come on Radio 2 give him some more cover work?

Are you all sure that Jensen's drive-time IS definitely voice-tracked? Seems odd to have a voice-tracked drive show. Must be one of the few, if not the only, one on UK radio. Very odd.

Why is it odd to come in during the day and prep the show. I don't know how far he lives from Manchester or London ( Which ever studio location he uses? )

He seems to read up to the minute news headlines whenever I hear the show.

I listen to Smooth Radio from 6.30am to at least 9pm nearly everyday.
After listening to Rod Steward's "It's Over" for the millionth time and Abba's "Dancing Queen" for another millionth time I had to send them a email.
How long has Rod Steward been around for?, and it has released other songs beside "It's Over"?
The same for Abba, its getting to the point they dont change their playlist very often, as I can normally guess the intro of the next song
Dont get me wrong, I like Smooth, like Simon Bates, Pat Sharp, Carlos, if Lynn Parsons gets on my nerves I switch over to Smooth 70s.
I like the Golden Hour as Simon Bates plays songs, they dont normally play on Smooth...
Rant over!

I thought it was just the final 70's @ 7 hour that was VT'd. Mind you I've not listened for a while as it's not a patch on Simon Mayo on Radio 2.

I would be very surprised if a national drive time show was completely VT'd
