Anyone heard Dave Brown on nightshift? He sounds quite good and has settled in well, has plenty of chat, although I did like Dave Lincoln, but Dave Brown is good for now. I see he's doing the weekday ones too, bloke must be knackered!!

Dave Brown is Head of Presentation for London. Know doubt overnights is currently only cover until the schedule is sorted, maybe more presenters come on broad and obviously they move into Global ( Leicester Square )?

Dave is a great presenter he does the soul & motown show on a Saturday night. He used to be on Radio Broadland & then Amber Radio in Norfolk.

Yes I think he is great I met him in norfolk. He sounds great on nights I don't like his Motown show as I hate Motown lol but agreed he is a fantastic presenter. I hope they get someone decent on overnights if Dave stops doing them.

Agreed. Really like his warm friendly style. Would be a shame for Smooth to become automated overnights.

Not sure I agree about Lynn. I find her irritating, as others have said before me, and I don't enjoy listening to her shows. I'm compelled to switch off when she's on. Emma B is much better when she covers for her.

I thought the cover for Pat Sharp last week was good too, upbeat and easy to listen to.

Cover for Pat Sharp last week was Paul Hollins. I really enjoyed listening to him and also when he's covered other shows for Kid Jensen and Emma B. His style's vibrant and easy to listen to and quite different to the others on Smooth. Likely to appeal to a broader audience and age group.

It's good to see Smooth using the same cover presenters for their shows, I think Paul would be good addition as part of the regular line up and bring something different.

Paul Hollins owns Blue Revolution who produces shows like 80 and 90 for stations. Pat Sharp does one so does Gary King who would be good on Smooth and so does Mark Goodier. Paul was on Heart too. I like Paul.

I've heard Paul on Heart also and I've enjoyed listening to his shows on heart too. His style seems versatile enough to work well on both stations.

Her voice grates on me and she just doesn't have the appeal of the others, which is a shame because the music is always good. But I simply can't endure listening to her show. I recognise this is possibly a minority view as she wouldn't have a regular show if she didn't pull in the listeners. I'm just not one of them.

I agree Gary is ok, but I prefer listening to Paul.

Confirmed by radiotoday, plus the departure of Steve Collins.
http://radiotoday.co.uk/2013/09/bran...-smooth-radio/
Quote:
“Smooth Radio will move to Leicester Square on October 1st after sharing London and Manchester studios under GMG ownership.

Manchester-based presenters had the choice of moving to new facilities at Global Radio or leaving the company. As a consequence, long-serving presenters Dave Lincoln and Derek Webster recently hosted their last shows, whilst evening presenter Carlos will make the move to London.”

So Global will take over the London and Birmingham FM areas and also presumably Smooth and Smooth 70's nationally on DAB, online and digital TV, whilst the CC and Global decide the fate of the regional and Scotland FM outlets?

Few on air staff will need replacing l guess? It'll won't sound any different moving to Leicester square- probably some tweaks and maybe a few changes over time. I guess the current staff decided to stay after a consideration?

Apart from Derek Webster, Dave Lincoln and PD Steve Collins..

With the PD leaving and the station coming under Global's control from next week I think there'll be some changes over the next few months. The music is still very biased towards classic soul/motown/disco; perhaps they might go a bit softer to take on Magic? Improving Smooth's performance in London whilst still keeping the large Northern audience happy might be tricky.

To play less soul music Smooth will need Ofcom's approval as it is a requirement of the London & North West FM licences.

You seem to have your ears closely pinned to the ground, who are you hedging your bets on/ think would be a good hire?
