A few months ago Smooth Radio london was up around 1900 unique tracks, over the last few weeks/months, this has been coming down week on week, to as someone as quoted earlier 1167... thats not a good trend if they are to rival radio 2 , unless it all changes as of Monday.
The daytime playlist seems to have been tweaked too, as it is sounding 'smoother' with fewer ludicrously upbeat/disco tracks. |

"Doctor Dick" called you??? I'd class that has an obscene or offensive phone call!
![]() Colleague took the call and said "some Scottish geezer called Richard for you". I wish I could say "respect for calling", but I despised him so much for what he was doing to my favourite radio station I'm afraid I was not very nice to him

The point is, no other stations delivers that selection of music. Gold - maybe the closest - plays far more upbeat pop and rock oldies, and doesn't have the soul bias Smooth does. And it's not on FM. BBC local radio might share some of the tracks, but they are not music stations, as Smooth is. |

Thanks God no other station does deliver that selection of tracks. About as dull as it gets. The point is that Smooth, regional or national is superfluous to requirements for the vast majority of listeners in the UK.
Smooth gets 15-17% reach in its strongest FM areas - around the same as Capital does in London. You could just as well argue that Capital is superfluous, as all its tracks can be heard at some point on Radio 1 or Kiss. |

a friend was at a recording of 'never mind the buzzcocks' in the week and Pat Sharp and Mick Brown were guests...why hasn't Smooth approached someone like Mick to join their line up? he's currently doing the drive time show on Radio Jackie

Goodier, Peebles and Blackburn are at least known across the UK with their targeet audience. (Pat Sharp on the other hand would work for me) |

Yes I see your point, there will always be some overlap. But in Smooth's case they haven't really got a strong identity. I wonder if the 15-17% reach in the strong areas won't be severely depleted by the new national station.
The one thing Smooth always had was the soul bias, which some may not like, but worked well in the NW. That definitely seems to have been toned down of late. I have to say that it's just a pity they haven't taken the oppportunity to get rid of Andy Peebles though. I really don't like his style of delivery on air - he almost sounds like he resents being there at times. Mind you, Goodier, Bates and Parsons don't excite too much either. Maybe that's what Smooth are going for. |

I am surprised that Jackie haven't reunited Pat & Mick as yet, they are missing a trick there. Just done the music for a friend's 40th this weekend, theme is 80's and a little bit of Let's All Chant by the aforementioned should go down well in my SAW section

I wouldn't be surprised if Lyn Parsons get the Weekend Breakfast show once her stint for weekday Breakfast finishes at the end of the year.
That would make sense if Tony Blackburn does leave. |

Somebody has just asked Carlos on his facebook page if Claire his wife has left "his old haunt" BRMB now they have moved to Manchester , The answer has made me confused as he's stated that Claire hasn't left BRMB and she will still be working for brmb. Also I find it sad that Carlos hasn't once wished Nick Piercey well in his future career either on facebook or twitter , I state this as he asked all of Tammy Gooding's listeners to make a fuss of her before she leaves on Friday. TBH I think Nick may have jumped at the chance of going to smooth in Manchester and Carlos came along and snatched his dream. cynical I maybe.

According to the Radio Times website (and the weekday line-up is correct for the next couple of weeks) the weekend 9th & 10 October is:
0.00 - 6 Terry Underhill 6 - 10 Tony Blackburn 10 - 2 Steve Collins (Sat) Carlos (Sun til 1 then docs) 2 - 6 Derek Webster (Sat) Terry Underhill (Sun til 5) 6 - 8 Dave Brown (5 - 8 Sun) 8 - 12 midnight Andy Peebles (Soul Train Sat) Normal show Sun. How accurate it turns out to be I don't know.

Am I right in thinking that Smooth Glasgow won't be affected by these changes?
![]() I've not heard any mention of them on-air. |

From the look of it weekend programmes from London will be breakfast and Dave Brown in the early evening with the rest from Manchester.
Looks like Motown Floor Fillers gains an hour extra too. |

I notice that this thread has been talking about Mitch Johnson VO man.
The same Mitch whose breakfast show according to another thread about Coast 106 has gone to ex-Chiltern DJ Tony Dibben. Or is it just coincidence that they have him back as VO man? |

![]() So basically, Breakfast, drive and one weekend show per day will still be produced locally. Edit: According to Smooth Glasgow's schedule for next week, local programming remains during weekday afternoons, so live and local for 10 hours per day during the week as now. If you really want to hear the English Breakfast and Drive shows, they're on DAB on the Digital 1 Multiplex under the label Smooth Radio UK. |

I think snatched is a big strong. I imagine all of the presenters leaving Smooth Radio this week would have jumped at the chance of hosting the national drivetime show - it's just the management choose Carlos to do it.

Francis I would say there is a hidden agenda behind your constant putting down of smooth radio I think you have an axe to grind which clearly for me dilutes everything you say.
