My concern is the tribunal and when Global officially starts the Heart FM rollout. I do hope that (in my opinion) a few good stations would be sacrificed (not franchised) in favour of keeping Both Real/Heart & Smooth under Global's official ownership.
If Global lose they might sell or franchise Smooth in the East Midlands, Manchester, The North East and Scotland keeping Smooth perhaps digital?
Which then leaves either Real or Capital in Wales and Yorkshire

Everything I have read so far suggests it will be the Capitals (outside London/Birmingham) sold to a group that will run them (and Heart North Wales) under the Capital franchise. Global are holding a trump card - if the new owners dump the brand they can put Capital 95.8 on Digital 1.

I wouldn't like to try and launch a new radio brand for 15-29 year-olds without London or Birmingham FM frequencies and with Capital & Kiss available across the UK on digital platforms (as well as BBC Radio). I think that would need some marketing budget to succeed.

As for Smooth, if Pete Simmons is the next PC that should give you a clue about the future output - pretty similar to Magic (one of the most successful stations in the capital).

Small playlist, more music, another boring station them. Whoopee.

I sadly think some are not happy with the changes, but lets see how it goes cause most could come back in time. I'm surprised Global have dropped / Rested however you see it " Our Tune" ?

I see Paul Hollins covering Andy Peter this weekend. I think Paul will become a feature on Smooth soon?

Smooth may merge with Gold and could be on broadcast on AM frequencies in areas of the UK like Devon and Norfolk expanding the network. This could compensate if they loose FM frequencies in areas like the North East and North West.

I think one brand suffering up north is the Utv network , on their stations they are now doing 5 in a row each hour, with a lot less talk.

Still keeping the same image and logo. It's like the USS Enterprise.

I hope they put smooth radio on the global app as the current smooth app is dire. I do hope smooth and gold both stay as I do listen to both but most especially smooth.

It seems two songs in a row, a little talk then trailer and commercials through out the hour. Very tight presenting.

Doesn't compensate you in Norfolk if you lose Smooth UK from DAB and get it on AM instead of Gold. Whichever way you look at it one good station is going to go. Smooth was never the same as Gold it was more like a commercial Radio 2.True its drifted nearer to Gold musically since the takeover even though it may not have been under Global control.

I cannot see how any merger with Gold can be good for listener choice.

That'll change from Monday. Are the presenters on GOLD quite tight with their presenting? Also, don't they have a soul show on that station that could network/move on over to Smooth? Also, Heart tends to cross over with Smooth's music at times, will that change?

Another personality less station with a boring 4 songs in a row that's all we need, Basically another Heart or Gold I can't wait.
Will suit David Jensen's act down to the ground then.

To my ears Jensen is the weakest link on Smooth yes he is boring enough to fit in.
Tight presentation in other words another Global robot station.

A Gold/Smooth 70's merger is much more likely.

Could Global rebrand Gold as Smooth 70s? Possibly moving the beatles & other gold favs onto the Smooth band-wagon?

I have a feeling that Smooth 70s is in danger of the axe.
