It's the last edition of Mike Sweeney's Million Sellers this evening on Smooth 70s.
But as he's based in Manchester he probably does not want to travel to London just to VT a weekly 2 hour show.
Global will still have studio's in Manchester, for pre-recorded shows it doesn't matter where they're produced.

I wonder who gets the most calls??

Roberto - Heart

Dean - Gold

Carlos - Smooth

To be honest would love To hear Dean on Smooth in the evenings, he's a peoples person!
Well out of the three you'd say Robert @ Heart as he must have the most listeners but I doubt it. Dean's show is a long established show that has a very strong & loyal following.

So in answer to your question I'd say Dean gets the most, then Roberto & Carlos bringing up the rear.

In my opinion Global could do far worse than syndicating Dean's show on Gold & Smooth

That wouldn't work, as Smooth's format is easy listening and soul. Dean would have to ban all the rock requests, including most tracks by the Beatles & the Stones, which would sound a bit strange on Gold.

Smooth has always stretched the term "easy listening". Recently a couple of rock track have appeared from The Beatles, The Animals, T-Rex, David Bowie and others.

I have never heard Jensen sound so bored or say so little as he has today.Speedlinks all the way,Nothing to say at all. Well. let's face it he can't even plug the Simon Bates quiz now.can he? ''We were Chasing Cars with Snow Patrol and next the Real Thing'. Jeez.
This is just a case of a man picking up the money, because he happens to have a famous voice. Money for..a tiny rather frayed bit of string.

I think you will soon find thats going to change, over the next few weeks i can see Smooth going very much easy listening to go head on with Magic 105.4.

It seems the image of the station has slightly changed with the presenters are just playing music with a few talky bits in between. " The Sound track of your day".

It's a battle I can't see them winning in London.

Can't see him lasting long. He off course jumped ship from Global to go to Smooth and now he's right back where he started from.

Get rid and move Dean Martin to Smooth drive with a view of him eventually taking over from Simon at breakfast.

So you think Smooth is more likely to survive than Gold? I don't see it somehow.
As for easy listening if you take that at face value you are looking back to Melody FM!!! Smooth is more or less another oldies station but with more emphasis on soul & motown than Gold. I used to regard Smooth as pretty similar to Magic but with a bigger playlist and with the presenters being more exciting that those on Magic who quite frankly might as well just as well be replaced with robots.

Carlos just messaged me and said the changes to smooth will start tomorrow. Starting with the new studio then new website and phone app. So it looks like smooth will be around for a while yet. I hope so anyway.

If the plan is for Smooth to be scrapped, you have to wonder what the point is of putting together a nice new studio in Leicester Square and moving staff down from Manchester. That gives the impression that Global are committed to Smooth, not that they're planning to scrap it.

They could move gold into there. They only have to change the branding on the screen and the colours which is probably a colour mixer.

Smooth is staying. Speculation is laughable. They need to keep it on air so play music which will be the new image we're hearing at present with other features added overtime.

Total rubbish show this morning. Music with the odd random comment by a female presenter. No audience interaction, news and adverts being over played with different output.

If this is the future under the new owners then I will be moving on, unfortunately there is no other station to move to.

so todays the day smooth get globaled! now watch the changes....all the features will be gone and London will get a big revamp on 102.2fm...a great opportunity to give the capitals airwaves something different... get some personality back on the air and play some great music..something Richard park was always good at producing in his radio heyday years ago.
