Once they've got some good sponsors on board and well paying spot adverts and Global are fully settled i think we will be hearing more long music sweeps (30 mins +) like on Capital.

Even less talk then. Might as well listen to my ipod.

so the weekend changes have been made...how long before the daytime schedule gets a new look....soon surely?

What weekend changes? I really can't see the point in a Motown and soul show followed by a soul show that makes no sense at all. Smooth is crap now anyway. Too many repeat songs. I tried to like it but can't bye smooth I will watch this thread with interest.

Smooth music is now so bland and down tempo its downright boring. Ok for late evening perhaps but lunchtime surely not.

The reason for it is Sunday after around 4pm is a graveyard slot there not aloud to push the specialist content into overnights so instead there doing the next best thing. Specialist content is a form of the past but sadly Ofcom still require it hence why Global have grouped it and pushed it into a poor figures slot.

I really hope so.

I listened to Smooth from 9am to 4pm today, and it was a real effort. The music was good, but the adverts after every 3 songs was just so predictable. Most of the time it was the same adverts too. If I hear that Vauxhall Motors woman doing a bungee jump one more time ..........

Pat Sharp sounded like he was just going through the motions, without any enthusiasm whatsoever. I want Smooth 70s back.

Is there really any point in prolonging this thread. It's not going to change anything and we've all made our views known in depth. Let them get on with it. I've now been Smooth free for over a week. I do miss Simon and also the double top 20. Besides that I'm over it already. Who really cares what Global do with Smooth. One thing they won't be getting is any of my disposable income through their advertising as I've gone full time to the bbc. I'll happily pay the licence fee for all that real choice. Six music is a revelation to me as well.

As I have repeatedly said, he's sitting in front of a computer with a touchscreen while waffling between songs on a playlist that some producer, who thinks they know about music, has put together.|

How could anyone get enthusiastic about that ?

Playlists have killed radio's soul in my opinion.

When you think of what happened in the 60's, pirate radio and all that, how did commercial radio ever come to this ?

and do Six Music have playlists put together by anonymous producers ?

I think not.

By the way, what happened to Mike Sweeney ? I was rather enjoying his Smooth 70's show on a Sunday evening.

Used to listen to him from time to time on Gold..

Yes Mike is another enthusiastic presenter ditched by Global. At the hop was a great programme and his sixties shows on Gold and more recently Smooth. Why would Global need someone like Mike with all that knowledge when they can simply have some dork programming what is no more than a 3GB iPod shuffle. Zzzzzzzzz.

Oops, I have not read the entire thread, so never knew. Interesting to know that Hertz, thanks.

Agree about Mike Sweeney as well. He was really good on Sundays on Smooth 70s.

Smooth is now the 9th most listened station in the UK and although it has given up trying to be an alternative R2, will still be talked about for some time!

Thanks can't say I am surprised at Global going for cheap sweepers. Should fit in well with the bland.music and presentation then.

I doubt the station voice Mitch Johnson comes cheap given his experience.

I wouldn't be surprised to hear more of "This is Smooth" as we approach Christmas.

What ? Have you lost it ? GMG also had sweepers when they run there version of Smooth. As said as well i doubt a voice session with Mitch is cheap, theres certainly far cheaper VO's they could have used.

Any excuse for a dig eh. The session was in no way different to the way it would have been handled under GMG. I suppose you are going to say the new studios are "cheap" as well...
