It does make you wonder why they are employing such high calibre presenters such as Bates, Sharp & Jensen and just getting them to play 7 songs in a row. They might as well get each presenter to host shows on Smooth and Gold at the same time and just do a link on each station every 10 or 15 minutes.

They seem to be playing a lot of Cyndi Lauper as well!

Oh my poor Carlos what a hash up. I just happened to tune in after football. We had about one min of silence. Then adds then adds and a request all talking over each other god this truly is awfull radio. How can they get away with this. And the playlist is just unlistenable now its so short. Very boring radio.

Honestly, the record's sounding very broken now. You tell us multiple times a day how bad Smooth is. We get it. The solution is simple - don't listen any more. |

About 4 days ago when I last listened to David Jensen's evening show, as I turned it off, A Different Corner by George Michael was playing. Tonight when I turned the same show on again some point after 6pm, I was greeted by the sound of....A Different Corner by George Michael yet again!

I loved the music at first but now it's so repetative. Keep dipping in and hear Billy Joel - The Longest Time, Kenny & Dolly and Paul Young in the space I'm tuning in.
I like the style they've gone for (musically) but it does sound like the station is ready for a big change soon, there's hardly any life left in it. |

Getting rid of Andy Peebles during the week from 8pm to midnight was a big mistake. This was an excellent show with warmth and personality throughout. The presenter does count immensely, and is part of a decision as to whether I listen.

Listened to the movie tunes on our way home from London yesterday Paul Hollins spoke three times in an hour. How can Richard Park consider this to be entertaining the listener. All he linked was to tell us what's coming up it might as well have been voice tracked.
After an excellent start and playlist on the first show, sadly the playlist for Smooth Soul Sunday has also become repetitive and predictable, which is a real shame considering the array of great music over the decades that they can create a more interesting playlist from. |

As someone who has done community radio, it gives me an insight into what's going on.
If you listen to all the Breeze stations on an internet radio for example, you'll hear exactly the same tunes on The Breeze Bath, the Breeze Portsmouth, the Breeze Newberry, etc, even though the presenters are different. So all they're doing is sitting in front of a touchscreen computer using a play out system e.g Myriad. All they really need to do is push a few buttons and talk a bit. Original and creative it definitely ain't ![]() The same thing happens on the Q Radio network in NI. I suppose these days it's all about advertisers and R.A.J.A.R. figures. Even when not carrying network from Bristol all the GWR stations played exactly the same song at exactly the same time on all five of their stations which I could pick up when I lived in Derby And on the merge with Capital local breakfast from Manchester presented by Mike Sweeney had the same track list as London. Only difference being that du e to local travel and news not being the two minutes sound bites they are now there could be up to ten minutes difference between when the track was aired in both cities To paraphrase Jim Royle Local radio ?? My a##e ! |

Would I be right in thinking that PRS payments would be cheaper playing the same song on every station than different tracks on each one ?
I've asked this before but never got an answer |

Unfortunately Smooth movie songs is a dud show, the playlist is incredibly repetitive from one week to another and I can't see this show lasting for too long. A poor replacement for the Motown show which was previously in this slot.
After an excellent start and playlist on the first show, sadly the playlist for Smooth Soul Sunday has also become repetitive and predictable, which is a real shame considering the array of great music over the decades that they can create a more interesting playlist from. Going by the comments on here and also facebook, the Saturday 6-8pm slot is a popular one, particularly for a certain demographic. To replace the Motown show with Movie songs is a disaster, which is why I can't see this show lasting too long. |

I've asked this before but never got an answer I believe it's based on the TSA size but someone may correct me on that. |

I for one am sadly no longer listening. Forgetting the tight and narrow presentation I suppose I could live with that if had to. However as a part of Smooths target audience I just cannot get my head round why Global feel the need to operate such a small playlist when there are literally thousands of suitable songs out there that are easier listening classics from the 60's to the classier stuff of the present day that could be played. I am not suggesting a playlist of thousands but surely a core of eg 1500 songs that gets changed/refreshed at say 15% per month is not too much to ask?

So you're a female aged between 40-59 are you?
I thought Smooth was almost a 50-50 split male & female and that it was Heart which was a female target. Anyway I'm in the age group and strictly speaking sex discrimination is unlawful. |
