Got me thinking about Global's stations and the music they are now playing.

60's & 70's - Gold
70's & 80's - Smooth
80's, 90's and today - Heart
00's to present pop and dance - Capital
00's to present urban - Capital Xtra”

I suppose your right with the Golden Hour on Smooth is a mix from 70s and 80s

I've noticed that too. Also on weekend morning and afternoons they seem to share newsreader with Classic FM (Alastair Yates and Sue Mansfield).

Heard Alastair Yates today. He has a rather posh voice like Peter Ferris. I wonder if they are wearing dicky bows like the boys on BBC radio used to when presenting the news

Gold is 50's to 80's.
Smooth is 60's to 90's (with a little 00's)
Heart is 70's to today.

Was about to mention that heard Smooth giving Buble - Everything a spin earlier today. Music is sounding really good at the moment, i usually like magic but smooth certainly is sounding better at the moment.

To interject a positive thought amongst all my moaning & groaning about Smooth ... Pete Waterman's show yesterday evening was a great listen as usual. I wish he (and his play list) were on daily.

Okay, they have had long enough to get their house in order so no more: "It's in a new studio malarkey."
Yesterday, just before 11am, during David Prever's show, Friday's weather forecast, read by Lynn Parsons, was transmitted.
Surely Smooth should have got their act together, by now.

That's not a very nice thing to say about Lynn!
What's wrong with Lynn anyway?

Nothing wrong with Lynn that Smooth letting the presenters be themselves wouldn't instantly solve. It must be like trying to talk with a gag around her throat poor woman.

I agree.

Listening to David Jensen in the middle of last week from about 5.50pm to 6.30pm I think I only heard him speak twice very briefly and matter of factly, lasting no more than seconds. Therefore on a 4 hour long show his entire on air contribution to the listener must amount to no more than 3 or 4 minutes in 4 hours at best. Why even show up for so little, that even when speaking are just generic links?

Give this radio station it's personality back. Human automatons are a big turn off, no matter who they are.

Then do explain why Jack/Jack 2 FM brands are doing very well? Considering it's mostly automated.

Always find it very odd how David Prever finishes his BBC Three Counties Saturday breakfast show at nine, supposedly in Luton.and is in London for 10am on Smooth, These topDJ's and their fast cars...Or does Prever do everything he does including regularly filling in for Bates.and then doing drive at BBC Oxford, five days a week.,from one location?
I know if I was in charge at Smooth I would nt want my presenter to arrive breathless for a show, similarly If I was the editor of BBC Oxford not sure iI'd think it was ideal that my drivetime host was working himself into the ground at all hours of the day,and travelling and seemingly hardly sleeping.

I was thinking the same, he must be knackered doing all them hours, but it might be a case of talking all the work he can...as you never know when it might not be there, especially in radio. All the management he works for though must be happy for him to work all over the place.

It could be he does the Saturday Smooth show from Global studios in Milton Keynes to save a drive into London?

My thoughts entirely. Radio like that is just like having an iPod with a wavelength, except someone else has chosen your music. No thanks!

I think you'll find that Jack in all UK markets have jumped up lots in Rajar. So although you may not personally like Jack...it seems people in general are preferring this to local radio presenters.

Whereas if I was in charge and happy with his work I woukd just keep quiet. As long as I get the service i'm paying for and the presenter is not in breech of contract then all is good.
