Cheryl Cole - Promise This
http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/music/ne...o-malaria.html
From the daily star so it's debatable on if it's true but i thought a thread about it wouldn't hurt. I am sure it's bound to be leaked or hit radio soon. Fight for this love was premiered around September. |

"Promise" seems to be a favourite word of hers what with GA's The Promise.

Someone had to say it. Anybody could sing the crap she releases and it would get nowhere. It only does well because her fans buy anything with her name and face on it. I can honestly say that I think all the songs (aside from Parachute which is ok imo) she's released or performed have been woeful.
I listened to it on youtube Rain On Me, Stand Up, Heaven and the singles are pretty good, the rest is forgettable. I would never buy anything by her though, just interested. |

Well, either you can or you can't sing. There's no subjectivity about it.
However you can say whether you think she's a weak or a strong singer, which from your post I'll take it that you think she's not the best of vocalists. Then again, neither do I. But she's a perfectly able singer. |

she wasnt a perfectly able singer when she was on radio ones live lounge. It was painful to listen to. Out of tune. Also radio big weekend. Watched her set on that and she was out of tune then also

Compared to Girls Aloud? That's a real compliment *smacks head* You seem to be a rather big fan of her though, so why haven't you bought it if you like 6 of the songs? Just interested.
What on earth is your problem anyway? |

Because I don't like it THAT much, it's a decent debut nothing more. It takes alot for me to actually get a pop album, in fact I don't think I own a single one. I'd also say apart from the aforementioned abomination, the rest of Girls Aloud's back catalogue is very impressive.

I don't have a problem. Just despair when GA is used as a measure of good music, and I was asking a perfectly innocent question, because if I liked 6 songs of an artists, I'd definitely buy the album. Just honestly wondered why you hadn't purchased it. Sorry to offend you, although I don't know how I would have.

But she's a perfectly able singer. If she sang challenging songs then it wouldn't be so bad. For example, Rihanna is not a very good live singer, but the ones she sings badly are ones that are out of her capability zone, and are relatively challenging (e.g Russian Roulette). She is fine at bog standard pop songs. Cheryl, however, cannot sing PARACHUTE. How can you be a singer and not be able to sing a song as easy as Parachute? It is repeating a few words again and again in like one key! |

Yes parachute uses 1.5 octaves and no belts.
Anybody who can sing should be able to sing it without any trouble at all. |

I am still looking forward to her new album though, even though the last one was rubbish. I've got a feeling this one will be a lot better. |

If singing in tune is not part of the criteria for being a perfectly able singer, then so is everybody I know in the whole world. They can all open their mouths and make a noise, most of them not in tune. Cheryl can also open her mouth and make a noise. It is also not in tune.
If she sang challenging songs then it wouldn't be so bad. It is repeating a few words again and again in like one key! But the thing is Cheryl does sing in tune. Admittedly weakly, and maybe not constantly in tune, but the majority of the time she is in tune. The fact is many people nowadays don't like her and make out as if she cannot sing. |
