Foxsat HDR EPG - downloading programme information
duane dibbley
28-09-2010
When I first got my Foxsat HDR whenever I entered the guide I got the message "downloading programme information" briefly then the background channel would load. Now the channel never loads and the message is displayed constantly. Not that I'm too bothered about that, I prefer it without the channel in the background! But I am concerned there is something wrong...Anybody know why this might be happening? The box was fully up to date when I bought it by the way, so I've not changed anything.

A freesat retune normally cures this. I would have expected todays retune to add 2 channels would have fixed it.

Thanks very much Graham, that has indeed fixed it. Had no indication of the 2 new channels, it normally tells you a retune is required as far as I remember? Not sure what happened there.
All sorted now though anyhow, thanks again!

It did it overnight as part of the housekeeping. If you don't happen to boot the hdr after the update is on air that's what happens.

I had roughly the same happen to me. Usually I get the pop-up telling me new channels may have been added and to retune. Nothing this time, so I manually retuned and got the 2 new channels but this meant I also had to reset the customisable channels. The HDR is in low power standby every night until I get home from work at around 6pm to turn it back on.

my foxsat isn't calling for the EPG update when hitting guide, straight to transparent screen and no listings beyond today.

Do I need to do a retune?

retune sorted it!

That's interesting, I use a Manchester postcode to get ITV1-HD Granada but have BBC1-WM at 101. Your posting has just prompted me to check BBC1-WM is still at 101. My retune was in response to the new channels found dialogue.

Trying a manual retune now -

Guess what - Auto Retune retains customisable channels and Manual does not. You learn something new every day

I also use a Manchester postcode to get ITV 1 HD Granada on the EPG. I thought it was strange when the custom BBC 1 remained the first time I retuned but not the second time. The diffference between the two? A retune the box asked me to do and one I did all by myself.

Another bug for Humax! (Along with the annoyingly abbreviated channel names in the Guide for no reason when they appear in full in the List section beside it!)

I wouldn't say it was a bug, auto retune is forced on you so it retains your user preferences. Manual tune is an action you initiate. I don't delete channels but I suspect that an auto retune may not reload your deleted channels (anyone confirm this ?). If so how would you get back channels you had deleted

Sorry to hijack this thread, but, that very same reboot meant that a scheduled recording for 20:00 to 21:00 that night failed!

Seems odd that I had been watching until just before we went out at 19:30 and there was no sign of the 're-tune'.

Odd did you leave the hdr on or in sby ?. If it was in sby the retune should not have happened.

It was indeed left on standby and, when we returned home and switched it on, the re-tune banner appeared.

Aha - so was this during the recording, before the recording should have started or after it should have completed. Was the recording a one off or series link ?. If series linked has the schedule updated to the next episode ?

GLT is correct.
An auto retune does not restore deleted channels.
Shopping, God & out of region channels are all still absent from my list after Tuesday's update.

I wanted one back once (BBC Scotland for a one-off show), and did a factory reset to get it.

Presumably a freesat tune would have restored it without deleting your recording schedules and having to reset other preferences like changing the volume.

1. It was switched off just before the recording was scheduled to start
2. It was a series link
3. Yes, it had updated to the next episode

Over to you!

Did you switch on while recording was in progress or after it should have completed. Which recording failed ?

It (should) have finished recording when I switched it on - it was about an hour after the end time of the programme.

Was this less than 15Mins?

No, I ask because the HDR normally wakes up (displaying the time) before a programme is due to start. I doubt it is anything to do with the channels being added, did you try and play the recording? The HDR indicates a failed programme if any part of it fails to record (sometimes when a few secs of ads at the end failed due to a conflict and in fact the programme was there). Can we ask what it was and the channel?

Not your fault, but 15 mins before a scheduled recording is due the hdr wakes to wait for the signal that the programme has actually started. Clearly what happened here is that when this signal was sent your hdr was downloading the epg update. A bug of sorts but a chance in a million. Had you booted the box after recording has started you would not have been offered the update so the recording would have been OK. Lets put it this way it's the first time I have seen this since the hdr was introduced. A perfect example of how hard it is to cover all the bases in software

If you had happened to look at the front display the clock would have been on indicating the pre recording period.

It was Ch 4 'Help my house is falling down!' - I checked on the media page and there was no entry of any kind (eg failed recording message etc)

I had the same thing so I did a factory reset and that cured it. It was also staying on from 3am until I switched it off or it finished recording a program.
