I'm no expert (just an arm chair judge
), but one of my 'tests' for a pro is whether or not they can keep up with the other dancers in the pro dances. So far the only pros that I thought couldn't do that are Hayley (and it stuck out like a sore thumb) and Jared (and I hope that will change). All the others seemed fine to me, including Aliona. It is nice to have world class dancers, but at the end of the day when the pros are dancing on SCD, they're not being asked to dance at world class standards. |

And perhaps we can get back to now (yes, the redhead one...)
Let's see how many forumers pounce on that throwaway comment to justify their right to post what they like when and where they like and generally adopt a defensive stance... You all crack me up!

So despite the suggestion you look at the Aliona Appreciation Thread as a perfect example of people liking Aliona, plus three pages of posts that contain plenty of on topic replies, you want us to post some more so you can have a good laugh?
You will get a reputation as a WUM if that's the case.

She's deeply, tragically, and irrevocably boring.
Next? I'm not criticising anyone by directly calling them deeply, tragically and irrevocably boring. I'm making a fair comment about the thread spiralling off on a tangent and that the defensive people were going to feel the need to HAVE to have their say by replying... Which has just been proved correct. I'm also not gender-stereotyping (she's a he). I'm familiar with forum etiquette having moderated many but I didn't realise it was offensive to so many people to make an honest comment and be curtly informed I'm labelled a WUM by the playground bullies. To quote so many of you. It's a public forum and I'm not breaking any rules, so why feel the need to take such an offensive stance. I thought I was actually contributing some thought-provoking threads, but clearly I'm an idiot and a WUM. |

You were then directed to her Appreciation thread by several people, which basically rendered this thread answered and the mods could have closed it then. Instead others started saying that they believed Aliona was not worthy of a place on the show, and then those who feel she is began defending her, which turned into a debate about the merits of focusing on pros' competitive CVs alone. Nothing off-topic at all. If you want to build yourself a reputation of being argumentative, that's your prerogative, but please don't lecture people in going off-topic when we were having the constructive debate you claim to want to have. Did you go to the Aliona Appreciation thread at all? You'll find the positive posts you were originally looking for in there

Please, please, PLEASE show me where I have attempted to lecture anyone. I am not argumentative, I have been misinterpreted repeatedly and no amount of explaining seems to be registering - which is rather frustrating as I'm sure you can imagine - particularly when a mere comment provokes childish name calling and as much vehement arguing as I have been told I'm apparantly adding. That sort of confirms the playful second part of the comment I originally made. Now I seem to be guilty of going off on a tangent, so to bring this mess to a conclusion - I like Aliona. You may not and I'm keen to hear why - discuss... Boxes ticked? Quote:
Your title says 'why hate Aliona', a question which provokes debate.

I'm not sure why you don't think that question hasn't already been answered. In this thread we have discussed the fact that actually quite a lot of people do like her, and where you can see proof of that. That some people don't like her choreography or think she showed off too much with Rav. That some people don't think the producers should have replaced world champions with someone who lacks anything approaching the same credentials. And finally, that her hair is distracting!

I think some of the comments are a bit hard on the OP.
Maybe using the word hate was a bit strong in the title but it was an interesting and valid topic for discussion. |

It's difficult to believe that the OP wanted a discussion, because the OP was so clearly biased - and, well, totally wrong.
What topic? Seriously. There Is No Topic. Compared to some of the tripe that gets posted on this board I thought it was a valid question (and yes, I do realise that I contribute some of the tripe ).I have obviously missed the point completely (as usual) and this is some kind of conspiracy theory.

The topic, as I understood it, was why Aliona doesn't seem to attract the same level of enthusiasm from posters on DS as other pros

I have searched, and searched... And still I have yet to hear one person make any sort of a positive comment on Aliona.

What topic? Seriously. There Is No Topic. A question tends to warrant a discussion particularly when there's many people with different opinions. So in what respect is there NO topic. If I had wanted to read post after post praising her, I would have turned to the appreciation thread. I didn't. My question implied I wanted to hear why people didn't warm to her. That's very different. So that's that cleared up... Hopefully. Everyone keeps making very misguided accusations that I'm argumentative and trying to lecture people. Again, not one person can actually quote me to show me how. And yet this thread has now gone so off topic with people adamantly telling me if I wanted to read positive comments (which I've explained I didn't), I should've gone to the appreciation thread (lecturing?), stop moaning (lecturing?), I'm a WUM and generally reaffirming the forum is a school playground, and my thread had no topic to start with (an opinion not held by everyone which is open to debate - and hopefully now covered by the above explanation). But that we have now also been told, as fact - not as an individual's own opinion, this is not correct. Seriously. (argumentative?) we have also been told that the existing responses should have already answered my original question and therefore we are now babbling - since when is a thread limited to a certain amount of responses (lecturing?) If people choose to argue, and I choose that word carefully, grammar, semantics, validation of another person's own opinion rather than focus on a very simple question - why hate Aliona - that's their prerogative too, but I find it very unproductive and hypocritical when their opinions, although not always expressed as such, are equally as spammy - particularly when they avoid simple questions like - show me an example of where I've acted like you're saying I have as I'm very open to where you're getting this from. That's my personal opinion however and I understand if not everyone sees it the same way... Have to make that clear. Simples! I don't see |

I'm interested in the context of this thread to see what people thought of Aliona's choreo last night? She obviously has a very talented celeb, so why the gimmicks? This is something I don't like from any pro... for me, props like that should be saved for when you need to distract the audience from the fact that the celeb isn't very good.
Matt will obviously be in for a long run, so I hope Aliona can do him better justice with her choreo in weeks to come. |

Ola because she basically had to and made it work. Aliona because she wanted to and it added to the fun of the dance
