I just posted this in another thread which was the wrong place as it was a happy thread so I'm sorry and I'm posting it here.

Our kitten Jasper just died an hour ago. She was run over. She was called Jasper because she was ginger and we all thought she was a boy. By the time we realised she had gotten used to her name. She was very close to my son and used to sleep on his bed every night. It's difficult to deal with as well because Jasper's brother was called Charlie and Charlie died two weeks ago. We're not sure why. He came into the house three weeks ago in a state and we cleaned him and nursed him. He seemed to be moving carefully but gradually improved (feeding ok, pooing ok, starting to play, coat back to normal) then he went out one night and died. Charlie was very close to my daughter, sleeping on her bed every night. We're now left with Poppy their sister who's very standoffish.

We've had so many pets over the years but I'm not sure if we can get more cats.
Neddy2000, I am so sorry to hear about Jasper and her brother Charlie, my heart goes out to you and your family x

Today I had my darling calico cat 'Trudie' put to sleep. She was 16 years old. She had cancer, (in her paw) and nothing could save her. She was in terrific pain, and I wanted to take the option of trying to save her (surgery) but, the vet said at her age, it would be a huge gamble of survival. I didnt care about cost., even though it was in the thousands

She was an indoor cat, and the most loving Moggy you could wish for. The saddest thing is, her final day she was hopping around, very alert and spritely and eating well, BUT she was on huge painkillers and antibiotics.

She slept with me every night, kissed me every morning (I live alone) and was great company.
love you Trudie. My heart is breaking. xxx

Aww how sad. My cat was called Winnie too

I cried about my Winnie this morning. I was cleaning Bungle's food bowl and cried for some reason. I picked Bungle up for a cuddle.

Our 16 year old collie is being put to sleep tomorrow. He has oral cancer and has reached a point where its time for him to go. I feel so ill and cant believe this time tomorrow he won't be here. Its unbearable to see my OH (its actually his dog that he owned when we got together) as hes distraught

We did all we could for him over the last couple of weeks but to no avail.

Today we had to make that dreadful decision

I'm really sorry to read your news. You are so kind and sympathetic to others who have lost their pets and now you yourself are going through the grieving process again (I know you have lost many pets over many years). It never gets easier.

RIP Daniel.

We had to have our lovely boxer dog Harvey put to sleep on Monday. He'd had an operation on his back leg after an accident when he was younger and the vet always said that it could cause problems in later life. At the age of 9, he was diagnosed with severe arthritis in his back leg, and was put on painkillers. He was struggling to walk and could no longer go out for walks. After a few weeks the painkillers weren't having the desired effect, and he was deteriorating quickly, to the point where he spent most of the time lay down, and was struggling to walk more than a few steps. We took him back to the vet, who told us the heartbreaking news that due to the arthritis in one leg, coupled with muscle wastage in the other leg, the best option would be to put him to sleep.

Later that day, we made that final trip to the vet. We always said that we'd never let him suffer, and the pain I could see in his eyes made it clear that it was time to let him go. The most upsetting part was walking out of the vets and leaving him there. I'm absolutely devastated, and can't help but ask myself if we could have done more to help him. The guilt overtakes me even though I know that deep down he was in pain. I've cried everyday when I've gone into my house. The silence is deafening, and the gaps where his bed and food bowl used to be make me feel so empty inside. It's the little things that upset you the most. Nine years old just seems too young for me to lose him.

I hope that one day I can look back on his life and just think about the happy times we shared. Rest in peace Harvey. I'll never forget you.

My beautify golden retriever, Maisie was suddenly taken ill yesterday. We rushed to her the vets who couldnt do anything for her, and we had no choice but to put her to sleep. She had a tumour on her spleen and it ruptured, it was all very quick. We are so shocked that it happened so suddenly and so quick. I cant bring myself to move any of her things. She was 8 and Im missing her so badly.

We lost our darling horse this morning completely without warning. He was 26.
In the 18 years we owned him, he was never anything but a total gentleman and a privilege to know. To be honest, I don't really believe it yet - despite all the tears - but I didn't want the day to end without marking it in some small way, so am very grateful for this thread.

Goodnight old friend and thank you. x

My daughter had to PTS, her greyhound today
His name was Jack, he took not well on wednesday
he couldn't lift his leg to pee, they took him to the local vet
the said it was a muscular problem, & gave him metacam
& see how it goes over the next day or two
We took him back yesterday, they gave him an x-ray
and found that disc in the lower back were knacked
they gave us stronger pain killers for him, & hope that would help

Well he was bad lastnight, & it was for the best !!!
we just hope there other greyhound Holly will be ok cos
she was always by this side night & day

RIP JAck
