Have you ever taken a holiday from Doctor Who?

Has anyone ever tried abstaining from all things Doctor Who for a week, two weeks, even a month? Sort of like an ascetic fast, or just to see what would happen? If so, what did it feel like having no DW in any form, and was your appreciation of DW any different when you came back to it?

Yes, many times, apart from coming here, posting or just reading, I can go quite a while without a Who fix.

But thinking about it has kind off made me want to have a Who session this weekend.

yeah from 1982 to 2005

Seriously. My family didnt like Davison much. We found him too lightweight after Tom and his companions awful. We enjoyed Earthshock and bailed out after Timeflight.

We caught bits by mistake over the years ie Resurrection, Trial and Time and the Rani.

But it was mainly "Christ, is this still going.." after about 1985.

I must admit to avoiding Doctor Who at first when Donna came into it. I couldn't hold out for more than a couple of weeks though and i watched it while shouting at the telly most of the time.

I stopped watching series 1 after the first half of the Slitheen rubbish but continued after I'd heard good things about the Moffat two parter and gave a few episodes of series 2 a miss.

January 1970, fully coming back in December 1973. Weirdly I only started being scared then, and the sofa was not enough protection.

I too stopped watching series 1 after the slitheen 2-parter. I still can't watch it. I caught The Empty Child by accident, and was very impressed, so resolved to watch again, but really hated the one about the reality shows (forget the name) so turned off. My main feeling was disappointment that I didn't like the show any more.

I was very relieved that I loved series 2.

If I'm away on holiday or whatever, I don't really think about DW, but when I come back I like to catch up with anything I missed right away.

I like posting on here and reading other people's posts, but if I'm busy for a few days I forget about it, largely, then I'll suddenly think "I wonder what's happening on DS".

I drifted away from around 1991 until around 2000. It was nice to be back. David tennant sorely tried my patience, but I grinned and bore it, and am now loving the new stuff.

No.

The message is too short so I'll waffle until it lets me send.

Not intentionally but I once didn't get round to coming on here for three months. If I carry on with this honest posting I might have to do it again!

I am on a serious Who Holiday at the moment. Watched it through from beginning to end last year then had the crazy notion to watch the whole of the New Series again at the beginning of this year!!!!

I haven't watched any Who since Series 5 ended aside from watching TEOT and TEH back to back a couple of months ago. I'm now waiting until November until Series 5 boxset comes out and then I might have a special Whofest then!!!!

So what have I been filling my time with since then....?

Well, on Series 2 of Torchwood at the moment.......

Yep, at a time known as "The Speshuls"*

It was a very weird time, let me tell you - full of fans desperate to watch DW, but who seemed to complain even more when they finally got to watch a new episode

*NB:
Spoiler
I know how to spell "specials", I'm just being obtuse

Yes - gave up watching it about halfway through Tome Bakers reign, came back halfway through his last series. Gave up again at the end of Sylvesters first series and only realy watched most of his on video or DVD

I stopped watching it during Sylvester McCoy's time although, by then, the older stories were starting to come out on VHS so I could watch them instead - I don't know if this counts as a proper holiday from the programme! I've certainly never stopped being obsessed with Doctor Who.

Used to watch the repeats on UK Gold religiously, and then enjoyed the TVM, but I stopped taking an interest in DW around 2000. I was interested, but not excited, to hear it was returning in 2003 - it was the casting of Eccleston that really restored my interest, and got me watching the 2005 season with renewed enthusiasm.

Came close to losing interest in the wilderness years, but then the Paul McGann TV movie came along and I got back into it.

I've always claimed to have watched DW since the Hartnell days right up till the present day. That's not strictly true.
The first 'live' episode I saw was Dalek Invasion of Earth, when I was the grand old age of six.I watched right through till the end of Troughton's era. I skipped quite a few Jon Pertwee stories - till he got his Tardis back!
During Tom Baker's years I missed a WHOLE season (The Key To Time) - I had a job by then, and didn't finish untill 7pm (grrrr - no videos around yet).
The next time I skipped was McCoys years - only watched about three stories.
This time around, I've not missed a single episode as yet. Roll on the 6th series!
