Guess what?..........

I'm the biggest idiot, numpty, brain dead pathetic numbskull.

I've been getting ready to ditch Virgin, so I programmed my Harmony remote for the "Humax" activity, but didn't set the amp input correctly, so it was using the optical output from my TV, which will not output DD.

DD 5.1 now working perfectly. Sorry about wasting everyone's time. Thanks for the help. I'll triple check everything first, next time I have a problem.

Try BBC HD test transmissions in the morning or overnight, as not all programmes are in 5.1, these are.

Luxe HD in non Freesat mode transmits 5.1 all the time.

Have you checked the box settings so it out puts Dolby Digital?

Press audio while watching HD and check the 5.1 track is selected”

That's not strictly true - there is communication in both directions over HDMI which enables the TV to indicate to the STB what audio formats it supports.

In addition, HDMI now supports an Audio Return Channel that allows the TV to send audio back down the HDMI cable to an Audio Amplifier. This is useful for getting audio from sources that are directly connected to the TV that would otherwise require a separate SPDIF connection.
